Just noticed this, sorry for being late to party. When did OB turn to Brevard, NC? Is this for all east coast OB? I also had a 19oz Dales and it was from NC also not as hoppy as I remember. Honestly I did not care for it. It was malty in a bad way. Dales used to be one of my favorites. No I am hesitant to buy it again. That being said having a Chub now and it's very good and it was canned in Jan 2013
They were up and running I think at the beginning of this year. Super pumped because now there is an OB brewery a few hours from where I am at. I haven't noticed much of a difference. I felt like I had a Mama's that wasn't as tasty as I remember, but I am going to chalk that up to my palate being off. Keep pluggin' away at them and if you feel they don't compare I'd drop it from your drinking list, but don't give up too easily.
I had Dale's for the first time yesterday. Pretty rad and hoppy for an APA! I didn't find anything wrong with it, personally.
I won't let it discourage me. There is just so much good new stuff now I rarely find myself buying my old favorites lately.
Yeah, I got a question. Who's hand do I have to shake for making available on the regular a great Scotch Ale at a great price & canned no less... ...now if you could help us out w/the Ten Fidy cans vs. price that would be grrrrrrreat. I.E. either make 'em pints ala Dale's or make it a sixer stuff is seriously too good to be contained in 4 measly little cans
I wouldn't know how much the water source has to do with beer flavor, but I do know that I love the water from most areas of the Rockies. The water up there tastes so damn good to me. I find most of the beer made up there to be quite satisfying. Just something to think about. Would be interesting to do a blind taste test, something I'm sure OB has done already. I would think water flavor would have some impact on the final product. But would it be noticeable?
I haven't had any from the NC location. I am however happy that it is up and running, because that means I should get more Oskar Blues on the East Coast.
We still have Oct/ 12 G Knight on the shelves here, some 3 /13 dates as well. Why is this OB is only 3 hours away.
I noticed the same thing about Dales but I really think it's more a change in palate than anything else. Dales used to taste super hoppy to me. I doubt the brewery changed its recipe that much.
Why would they change the recipe just because of a move? It would defeat the purpose of the move in the first place.
I have been buying the 19.2oz stovepipes for months now. When they first came out I couldn't stop grabbing them out of situational ease (band practice, beach, music festies) and they were deliciously FRESH, like within 10 days old fresh. I work at a bottle shop and our last delivery had cans dated almost THREE months ago and were recognizably malty. Why ship old beer? Check the date because that has a lot to do with it.
