It's a sign of what craft beer has come to these days, but this decision is all about your cookie preferences.

If you can envision devouring a sleeve of Nutter Butters more lustily than you can a sleeve of Oreos, and it sounds like you can, then that's your answer right there. Everything else about the beers is the same, or so similar as to be indistinguishable except for that variable and how you personally respond to it.

Personally, I prefer my cookies and my stouts to remain separate entities. The whole is not always greater than the sum of the parts. But for everyone like me, there's a dozen others whose tastes run a dozen different ways. Including you. To thine own self be true.

I skipped out on the previous drama but dude, what are you going on about? Is the beer good or bad?

Wasn’t there that period though where several Galaxy beers were poorly received due to an allegedly bad hop crop or something? My memory is crap but I feel like it extended for several beers. Citra was undisputed king at the time.

    Lay-speak/abbreviated translation:

I think both base beers are the same so go with whatever cookie you prefer. Haven’t tried them myself since pastries don’t do it for me. I understand I’m in the minority though.

True, I knew it was unlikely anyone had tried both already when I asked but since I happen to be going to be up at Bloomfield this morning and don't get to make it up there often I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. In this case I was hoping I was simply underestimating my fellow beer nerds and someone had been passionate enough to try both.

Honestly neither of them sound exceptional to me since I am not huge on pastry stouts in the first place but I have never had an OH stout before and since I happen to be in town I figured now is a good time to pop my cherry. If I wait for an OH stout that isn't full of lactose or some weird adjuncts I would probably never get to try one since they aren't a brewery that focuses on the traditional.

Yea a while ago there was a batch of Double Space Daydream that was noticeably off. The batch before it was absolutely stellar so I tripled up for the first time ever... and I'm never doing that again.

I didn't think anything I wrote was particularly abstruse, but if you need a pared-down version, Malcolm's got you covered.

I would only add that I think your second question is unanswerable in any objective or absolute sense. So I didn't see any point in responding without all the caveats.

As for my style, well that's just me. You be the compulsive Instagram guy. I'll be the other. There's plenty of room here for us both, and for everyone else, as long as we make allowances for one another and keep it respectful.

Don't know how fast it will sell in brooklyn but the the grape pie collab with Mortalis has been available for the past week in Bloomfield and still is right now so that one at least doesn't seem to be especially limited

I’m way to hungover for this, but it was an objective question that can be answered objectively. No question (especially about pastry stout) is “unanswerable”. If you didn’t try the beers, why comment on the question?

I’m just putting it down to a clash of styles - both operate at the extreme ends of the communication spectrum.

Let me put it another way. Taste in beer is no more consistent across different people than taste in food, books, films, music, political ideas, etc...Even voices on a message board. Everything we perceive we perceive in a way which is unique to ourselves and our experience. And everything we appreciate, or don't, we appreciate differently for those reasons. None of this, I don't think, is controversial.

In light of it, though, I couldn't give the guy an objective answer. Because there isn't one. But in the absence of anyone else weighing in, I wanted to at least give him a subjective one. I've certainly had enough Other Half stouts to have offered him an educated guess and that's just what I did.

    Kind of.

But I don't mind because I'm not on social media and it saves me a little trouble. So thank you.

Lets see if I am the person passionate enough about beer to kill the oreo and nutter butter variant in one day

I tried both in the taproom. Oreo is fine, tastes fairly standard for OH in the style. The nutter butter is a bit more prominent but kind of weird.

    Sonoma beer is awesome.

Also Roc showers on in the taproom
