so The 9th is officially the ‘tose test takeover? Maybe we can get some cans together of all the treatments. Looking forward to it.

I do think lactose provides a noticeably thicker mouthfeel, and I would say I think I can taste a difference, but I'd be interested to compare as well on the 9th.

Also I think 5th Anniversary IPA is tasting notably better; the Nelson has dialed down and is better integrated with the other hops. Still not as good as OG 4th tho.

I’m truly hoping I can make the 9th. All for the science. I imagine @dhaakon will be the official scribe?

My first trip to Other Half was back in 2015 and I'll still take some OG Green Diamonds, AGE and Hop Showers any day of the week.

In beer years, this feels like generations ago.

Is that tap takeover still going down with JWakefield on Friday? Still on the website but hasn't been posted on IG.

Literally a generation ago. Those kids drinking in OH with dad might not have been born yet.

Been wondering the same thing.. I figured since they had events Sunday and today, they would probably make an announcement tomorrow. I want to know if bottles are going to be released again this year as well.

I’m still thrown for a loop on this one. I kinda sorta get letting your kid have a sip. I, myself, wouldn’t let my kids have a sip of anything, that’s up to them when they get older but I was given a full can of Bud when I was 8 by my Godfather (who had plenty of problems) and I choked it down even though I hated it because I thought I was cool.

If I was in a brewery (or a bar) and I saw some parents giving their kids sips of multiple beers, especially ones that range in the 8% to 14% range it would make me feel physically uncomfortable, like I’d want to not be there. If those kids really are that young, that would intoxicate them.

Edit: I’ll add too, as a bartender, if I saw that going on I would have a hard fucking time serving them moving forward. It’s not your role to parent these kids but it’s your role (and job) as a bartender to use discretion in this type of situation.

I doubt it considering they released J Wakefield bottles pretty recently. Though I wouldnt be surprised to see I Believe In A Thing Called Stout shows up.

Well I guess that’s one potential outcome. Though not sure if it's 100% possible. Like I'm pretty sure that the ACE/Double Citra Daydream, or Space Diamonds/Space Daydream pairs differ beyond just lactose. Like the daydream versions also have oats (the "normal" ones don't right?). And who knows what other ingredient variations there could be that us plebs are unaware of.

I think it would be more interesting to just have six beers. Double blind taste tested in opaque glasses (or ideally blindfolded as long as people don't think there's some sort of kinky BA shit happening). Three tose and three non-tose (if that's even possible anymore). All around the 8% mark. Ideally with an ACE/DCD type of pair in there as well. People need to a) score each beer out of 10, b) rank them in order of preference, and c) identify which beers have and which beers don't have lactose.

There are tons of various outcomes.

But let's say @frozyn's (to randomly pick someone) results were - Tose (10), Tose (9), Tose (9), No-tose (8), No-tose (6) No-tose (4) (with only one correct tose identification), then we could say he is full of s**t.

If they were Tose (9), No-tose (9), Tose (9), No-tose (8), Tose (8), No-tose (8), (with only one correct tose identification), then, to your point, we could question the value of tose (and still mock him a little).

And if they were No-tose (9), No-tose (9) No-tose (9), Tose (4), Tose (4), Tose (4) (with all tose correctly identified), then I would bow down to his Master Palate and concede that yeah perhaps tose really does have a strong impact on some people.

Tap list is looking good from HV: Apotheosis, Holy Icon, Glycerin w/ Blueberry + Peach.

...I'm considering bring my laptop to get some work done, but, it might get a little crowded...or maybe the snow/ice will keep non-locals away during the day.

I do like the idea of identifying the superior palates on here and holding it over everyone...even if it's only for ipas

I know I've made light of the situation, but that's mostly because it just seems so farfetched to me that someone did a beer tasting with their kids. I'm not sure what he's trying to do here other than get his kid drunk. @PapasDelicateCondition kinda hit the nail on the head about the taste of beer shifting in such a way that kids can stomach or even like it. My dad was a budweiser guy through and through, and he actually let me take a sip of his beer when I was a young kid because he knew I wouldn't like it and wouldn't ask for more.

My kid has it ingrained in his head that "daddy beer" is off limits. The beer fridge actually has 2 locks on it, but he runs over and likes to look at the cans when I'm in there. He's actually a fan of Carton since his favorite color is orange. OH cans don't interest him in the slightest.

I hear you that people do some weird stuff these days when it comes to parenting, and it's the polite thing to do to just let people do their thing without saying anything. Definitely can make you feel uncomfortable though.

I'm really looking forward to joining the pantheon of Hazepecker and Hazegramps when I completely bomb the ToseTest and receive my nickname during the ensuing shaming.

People also bemoan the plight of locals who can't get to OH on Saturday. If only they would release some of their best beer, and without lactose, during the week to kill two birds with one stone. Ideally early enough in the week, like a Tuesday.
