I honestly don't get who these takeovers are for? F train is right there, you can go drink at the source in like 30 mins on the subway and buy packaged beer as well.

I'm lazy, so I was hoping for some cans to save me from having to go all the way to Brooklyn.

I guess for people that work in Manhattan who live outside the city. Or I guess for people that live above 14th Street. But yeah I’m with you.

That all said - it is funny the mindset people that live in Manhattan can have. I lived in west village from 2008-2013. Brooklyn (one stop on the L train not included) seemed like the boonies. I remember going to Double Windsor and Beer Table (OG one in park slope). First foray into non-Williamsburg Brooklyn. Got off the subway and was looking around dumbfounded like where in the fuck are we.

I live in the Village currently and I even feel this way when I go up to Midtown/Central Park. You get out of the Subway and there are all these tall buildings everywhere. Brooklyn is nice, but I only go there for Other Half, Costco, and Ikea.

I'm like the opposite now that I finally live in Brooklyn, basically never go into Manhattan except for work. Although getting to South Brooklyn to go to OH or Threes is still a pain, takes like 45 mins to get there.

yeah I’m the same. we came into manhattan a couple weeks ago (and even worse went somewhere that was about 2 mins from my office) - I think that was the first time I came in on a weekend in almost a year. probably make it up to greenpoint/williamsburg once every 6 weeks or so

to add to it, the prices at carmine are not great, so it may be significantly cheaper to go drink at OH vs pay $7-9~ for a small pour. I love Shane and his store, but drinking there can make you poor.

So what I am reading as that people who live in Brooklyn are the same as those in Manhattan; they don't go to the other borough unless they have to.

Then again, if I had to commute to Manhattan everyday I would probably hate the place.

Brooklyn resident/manhattan commuter here- only thing that gets me into manhattan on a weekend or day off is the grand delancey.

Your statement is on point. If you're coming from NJ via the PATH, it's going to be a lot easier to go there, and more to the point, easier to convince others, than adding another half hour plus to go to OH. Plus while there are some good spots not far from OH (minbar, travel bar, ugly baby, El mate etc) there's much more to do close to Carmine's obviously. So yeah if you have a spouse or friends that are lukewarm or have no interest in OH something like this is a chance to go, grab a couple pours, and move on before they get ancy. Now, to stay for hours? Yeah that's a little crazy and at that point dumb to not just go to Gowanus.

Well I think it’s a bit more nuanced.

Manhattanites don’t want to go to Brooklyn (ex-Williamsburg) because Bay Ridge or Ditmas Park are interchangeable with Newark or West Babylon

Someone in another borough may not want to go to Manhattan because why spend the effort going on the same journey you have to take to go to work (assuming your work there of course - many do). I go to Queens on a weekend a lot more regularly then I go to manhattan. But only speaking for myself. My sister in law goes to manhattan very regularly

Same. I lived in "Hudson Square" from 2014-2016, and it always seemed like a nightmare getting to Other Half by train, especially on the weekends. I lived right on the West Side Highway so it was pretty easy to take a cab through the tunnel but it could be pricey sometimes.

Court Street Grocers was a godsend when they got cans on Friday night.

Plus the obvious fact that people from Brooklyn/other boroughs who work in Manhattan get the opportunity to eat/drink there five days/nights a week.

Yeah that's somewhat true. I don't prefer drinking in Manhattan but if I'm here for work I'm happy to stay.
Then again I live half a mile from the brewery and my biggest frustration is the inconvenience of having to transfer should I want to stop by on my way home.

My GF hates going back into Manhattan after being there for work during the week as well. I don't mind it but I don't go out of my way to suggest it. The only times we go are if she is going out after work and I meet her there or I decide to meet her when she has to work Sat half days. There's just as much, and arguably better, things to do in the areas we enjoy in BK.

I live VERY close to many subway stations so my manhattan resistance is a bit less, but totally agree that brooklyn has much more and better/cheaper things to do.

haha I’m on the same boat. work near the F and R in manhattan. And get off at the 4th av F/G/R stop in Brooklyn. I always opt for R unless going to OH - in which case I have to endure the unending hell that is the F

And the last thing I’ll say on this (off) topic - for parents with small kids like me, south Brooklyn also just a generally way more chill place to be. Taking them to parts of Manhattan usually causes huge blood pressure spikes

Brooklynites don't go to Manhattan on the weekend unless utterly and completely socially obligated because it's a godforsaken cesspool of humans, noise, and crazy. Manhattanites don't go to Brooklyn on the weekends because if they did they would realize that Manhattan is a godforsaken cesspool of humans, noise, and crazy compared to the relative calm of Brooklyn (outside mini-Manhattan WBurg) and then would spend the next few hours questioning their very existence. And people wonder how NYC makes people drink*.

*Just kidding we all know exactly why that's how we got into this hobby and found the joy of OH. #notose2020

Getting back to beer talk, we know we're getting a Banana Split stout from The Veil mobile release, but will it be Wild Thai Banana?
