Yea I would take 2014 VR over any stout OH puts out with vanilla (which appears to be almost every stout) 100/100 times. Even regular BCBS every single year is better than any BA stout OH puts out.

The color looked weird in picture, very brown for a stout, especially an Imperial Stout. I actually did quite enjoy the Crunchee Stout from anniversary and this might be just a better version of that.

I know nothing about brewing. Is there a reason why these sugar beers are all 15% alcohol? Does it make the beer thicker? Is the abv high only to justify the price?

You almost need the booze to balance out all the adjuncts

I will give a fuller report soon. I drank two cans last night and would rate it an 8/10 (usually I would give a 9, HDHC would be a 10). However I had slept like shit the night before, taken a flight that day and was dehydrated as a mofo, and hadn’t eaten anything since breakfast - so palate probably off

Yes I can see it’s clear how much I care about ACEs rep.

The most simple answer is that these beers are so sweet because of the high ABV. Sugars from the grains used in the brewing process are converted to alcohol by fermentation. In order to achieve something like 15% abv you need a ton of grains, which translates to a ton of sugars. I’ve noticed most of OH stouts are under-attenuated (whether it’s by design) which is why they are so sweet to begin with.

Add in all the ridiculous adjuncts (most of them sugary to begin with) and you have liquid diabetes.

edit: it could also be the result of OH mashing at higher temperatures. Difference in mash temps for many grains results in the extraction of non-fermentable sugars, which remain after feementation.

For tomorrow's release, any advice on how early I should arrive for a good chance to get the BA stouts?

so I see on social media that OH will be doing special mouth pours at Pastry Town... with what is going on in this world is this really something that needs to be done?

an even more serious of a question...what is the history of mouth pours? how/why did they become a think? Is this a brewer exerting power of his minions or is this fan boys hoping to get a taste of their favorite brewery poured directly into their gullet?

And you need the adjuncts to help offset the booze.

Which came first the adjuncts or the booze?

Those events are not mutually exclusive! I've seen it happen in line shares a few times, someone forgot a cup and awkwardly holds the can/bottle above their mouth while managing a pour. I think it's just a bit of fun for those who want to do this? Certainly, it would be just as easy to do bottle pours, but where's the spectacle in that?
