they brew some of the more common ones such as Mylar bags out of DC too. Some of the beers are unique to the location but some overlap. It’s hard to distinguish sometimes. But as some have mentioned before, the shape of the OH logo on the can is a way to go. I tended to only go for beers brewed out of the main brewery in Brooklyn and avoided DC, but that’s not full proof obviously. The TDH citra chroma brewed at DP was straight fire. Maybe that smaller system works because it’s hard to replicate some of the early haze craze quality at the volume these breweries are pushing out these days

Does Domino Park have different shape vs Centre?

I picked up a couple four packs - Blue Crab and Crab Dust, along with a few singles, at the Domino Park OH this weekend.

The Blue Crab and Crab Dust were essentially the same beer with different labels. Decent hazy IPA, but nothing special. I got them b/c we have a place on the Chesapeake, so crabs.

What was super disappointing was Dank Ivy. It was very cloying and sweet. The dankness was about a 1 on a scale of 1-10. No dank smell or taste. Just sweet and thick beer.

The Domino Park facility is pretty great though. Nice and airy, and there were a tone of dogs inside and out. Also liked that you could buy singles. I’m not sure OH warrants a 4-pk purchase anymore.

I tried a taster on Friday when I got to the taproom. It tasted really green to me, but it could be the lactose because I haven't had a beer with it a really long. Everything else I had was really good. 4 EZ Payments was really good. Bought All Simcoe which is great and MoGa which I haven't opened yet.

Yes. I forget the exact breakdown, but if you scroll back you can probably find it. I think a lot of the DP brewed stuff will be draft only though, especially now they taprooms are getting busier.

All Simcoe is a beer of the year candidate for me.

Also it was great bumping into pals Friday at the old taproom!

Anybody got recommendations for "must visit" breweries between here and Miami?

OH DC would be fun, though apparently I should hit up Triple Crossing if I want better beer! Is the Veil worth stopping at? I'll be in Charleston for a couple days, it looks like Westbrook is close enough for a visit. Eighth state is too far out of the way.

I can probably swing one or two breweries along the way, but nothing too far off the beaten path. It's unreal how much worse driving is with a 9 month old in the back seat than without. It's never felt more important that I get to my destination ASAP.

Don't go to Charleston and fail to hit up Charles Towne Fermentory.

Tried a Trippy Daydream last night, yes it's still a bit green but drinkable. My sense is that it will be excellent in about a week. Don't have high hopes for Space Hallucinations, going to wait on trying that again at least two weeks.

This all feels very targeted. :sunglasses:

Depending on their hours, you could stop at Scott Janish and Mike Tonsmiere's place Sapwood Cellars between Baltimore and DC (Columbia, MD). I don't think stopping in DC is a good idea cuz it'll add so much time to the overall commute. The Baltimore to DC stretch and the DC to RVA stretches are brutal IMO.

In RVA, besides TCB, I'd check out Final Gravity (under the radar brewery that makes great IPAs). The Veil and Vasen would be good spots to pick up too, though I believe, with family in tow, maybe not the best place to stop (due to crowds). In Scott's Addition, where Vasen/Veil/Ardent/Strangeways etc are, you could stop to get some BBQ at ZZQ which is great. Both TCB locations are much more chill than the Scott's Addition breweries IMO. The Fulton location will have a better selection for takeaway.

    When are you headed down?

    Ha, no, definitely not.

I am on the fence about Sapwood. I've followed Mad Fermationist forever and it'd be great to swing in.

Likely headed out at the end of the week.

Def great to see you and others after not getting out much the last year plus! Hopefully we can keep having meet ups now that our fearless leader is leaving. Glad to see you before you head south.

Someone mentioned Vasen and I gave that recommendation to @Feaor when he went. He said the space was really cool. The few cans my friend sent me have been good as well. Triple Crossing is definitely worth it, although for the King of Hazies they might not have a ton on tap. When I stopped in April they only had 1-2 and then a handful of other styles. +1 for Charles Towne as well. Aslin (Alexandria) isn't far off the path depending which way it takes you past the DC Metro area. I have also heard Two Tides in Savannah makes some good IPAs and Sour beer as well.

    Safe travels!

Your point about TCB is fair - the taplist definitely varies (as does their to go availability). They have 3 DIPAs (2 NEIPA and 1 WCIPA, I believe) as well as two versions of their flagship on right now as well as a pale ale for hop forward stuff. Additionally, they have Pathway which is their pils and really good IMO. I think the main advantage from a visiting stand point is that there's food and it tends to be more chill than other spots. The Scott's Addition breweries seem to attract a slightly different crowd and the hours of say The Veil don't really lend itself to family time there. Vasen, I think can still be chill not on a weekend (we went on a Friday most recently). The big thing in TCB's favor is knowing that they have food vs the other breweries may or may not have a food truck. Also, don't sleep on the non-alcoholic lime seltzer on draft.

Specific to @algebeeric_topology - TCB's Poor Icarus is the first beer with Strata I've taken a liking to.

Agree with the previous posters. Charles Towne is my favorite SC brewery. New Anthem in Wilmington, NC is excellent but a bit of a detour off 95. Civil Society in Jupiter FL is a good spot closer to Miami. It is easy to reach from 95.
Re: Eighth State, while in Charleston, take a look at the growler options at Bottles if looking for one of their seltzers. Zero % chance of a stout showing up - ha ha. Summerville location has one right now. Mount Pleasant location is closer to Charleston, but no Eighth State at the moment. They do have some Creature Comforts options including Tropicalia.
Personally, I would stick to Charles Towne Fermentory while there. Westbrook has some good stuff as does Edmund’s Oast. Both are a step below IMHO.

Thanks. I'm really stoked about Charles Towne. Civil Society is absolutely on my radar once I'm down there permanently. I've not been blown away by the stuff we've had up here, but I guess you could say the same about the Other Half that goes out. Also if I go down there and drink it for long enough, forgetting about OH and Grimm, I'll start to say it's BETTER than all that swill in NYC.

And I agree with your frankness regarding westbrook or edmund's oast. I think I bought an edumnds oast can once as a mistake and haven't bothered again. I was joking with someone recently about how nuts I used to go for Mexican Cake and now it's an easy pass. It seems like Westbrook straddles that line of big enough to be a bit more fun and accessible but crafty enough to have a great beer while there.

I am really stoked for Charles Towne! It looks perfect.

Thanks! and I'll keep an eye out for maybe Vasen if it works.

Do either of the Brooklyn locations have televisions? Read: are either candidates to watch England-Germany tomorrow?
