you've been here since 2012 so you should have been around long enough to know that the 'advocate' part of the URL actually meant something once.

you can trade beer without the gloating about the beer you've scored and foaming at the lip about how you can't wait to flip it into some Tree House cans or whatever else, on the brewery's own social media accounts. yes, I trade beer occasionally but I don't treat it like a commodity in which I buy up to my limit so that I can maximize my return on investment or whatever else people seem to think beer is nowadays.

I missed this one. And that seems like it may not be the worst thing in the world. Will the next release be back to normal you think?

Haha, look I agree with a lot of what you're saying man, I think you need to calm down a bit. No need to make personal intimates about the kind of person I "probably" am. I didn't even say I endorsed the opinion, I was just explaining what he meant. I agree that, for the most part, it's a public sale and nobody deserves the beer more than others.

That being said, I do agree with the idea of giving a nod to your most loyal customers - the people who are your bread and butter. Not because they "deserve" it more, but because it's probably good business to reward the people who give you the most business. There are many ways to go about doing that - like you said, some kind of club could work, or lowering limits on in-demand releases like this could also work. Or they don't need to do anything - ultimately, it's their decision. I'm not really here advocating anything; like I said I was just trying to explain (hopefully correctly) another post.

more like a Bisco show, lets not put phish fans under this umbrella

Then again after many of the NYE show runs year in and year out with the number of tanks on 8th ave each year, not sure if the cops will catch on, since unfortunately they still let that shit happen

Waited almost 5 hours on line and got there at 9. I was expecting to be out of there by 12 latest. Full blown shit show...the staff handled it pretty well all things considered. I'm sure they didn't expect things to get this out of hand. Some people on line really had no consideration for Other Half or the neighborhood. People like that give beer nerds a bad name

FWIW, I got into line around 9 and - aside from a three hour turnaround to get cans - did not find the process too awful. Hung out with some fun folks, grabbed a beer once I was in the taproom, and came out with 4 four-packs. Seems like the line-cutting/bottle-sharing/bong-hitting set was closer to the front, so we were largely removed from that.

All this is to say: I feel like Other Half did what they could to make this work. All signs pointed to shit show, so they lowered the limit to 3. Then they saw all their concerns about the hype come to pass, so they lowered it again. It's a small operation, so I doubt they want to dedicate manpower or other resources to ticketing or braceleting folks every two weeks, especially when this release is more exception than rule. Next time around, the crowds will revert to the mean, and we can forget the shitshow-ery until the next superhyped collab.

I have been imonhiatus since 2012, I have been around longer than that. that's probably why I even poke a stick at this discussion. I was one of the first ppl shouting from the rooftops in disgust when my stores imposed limits and a dozen ppl were faster to get their name on a list at the store I had been going to for years before the madness really got maddening.

and then I looked in the mirror and realized that I was bring a whiny bitch. who cared that I had spent 100s of dollars at a store month after month for the past few yrs? who cared that last year I got a case of kbs...none of it matters. who is to say that the new guy who just got into it won't be spending 300 a month at the store? who says the new guy on line at other half for this release won't all of a sudden become a giant fan boy and be a "regular." the point is that none of it matters.

if you trade beer, why does it matter if those trades get set up on the breweries Facebook page or BA or anywhere else? who cares if someone bought it to drink or bought it to trade?

am I being a little harsh? you bet...buy stop whining for a second and read some of your posts, then replace the beer we are talking about w something that you recently got into and all of a sudden it sounds like some grumpy old timers pissed off about newmoney. we were all newmoney once. your good ol days could've been when beer releases meant no lines oraybe it meant if you got there the day of you got beer, but things change and continue to change. let go of the entitlement and realize it is a new day and if you want beer, you better be prepared for long lines and camping out and scum trying to game the system. it is all part of it.

maybe other half should make a special club that you have to write an essay to join. that way only the real regulars will get beer? no one got but hurt when HF did that.

This is pretty much exactly how I feel, and we were about the same place in the line. The only part that was bad was the 4 hour wait from open until getting the cans. I know it's a small operation, but there's gotta be a way to speed it up, no?

This release sure bringing out the best in everyone! I was there at 7:30, and feel fortunate to have gotten my share before the limit dropped. My $.02:

The Good ==> Street Green - its good stuff; OH Staff - they did a hell of a job considering the madness, it could have been worse

The Bad ==> Line Cutting - its just obnoxious, get there early or get to the back; Open Containers - jesus this was terrible, bottles and cans in hand is not smart. If you choose to drink in line, be discrete. This WILL cause issues for OH, and we all pay for that. Weed - get a vape pen, don't do it openly. Just because its Brooklyn doesn't make smoking weed legal or a rite of passage.

Yeah, looking back on this, it was probably closer to four hours. I hope if/when OH expands, they find a way to cycle folks through faster at these releases.

Eh, all things considered I had a good day. Got on line at 8:45, was finally out by 1pm. Grabbed a few 4 packs of Street, and a few of GD.

Met great people while on line. Laughed the whole time. Had two dudes attempt to cut into the line from the tasting room. Kindly told them no go, and they complied. :sunglasses:

Cheers to the staff and those that help them out for free. Hell of a day.

I also met some great people on line. That is the saving grace to these releases. Any other group of people or different kind of event would feel like an eternity. This actually kind of flew by because of the great laughs and conversations.

After 4 hours of waiting in line I got my four 4-packs, my egg sandwich, and my teku glasses. All in all a success.

Having said that: I'm so happy that it's over and I probably won't be attending another hyped release like this ever again. Today made me really appreciate Other Half's normal can releases.
