I'm not trying to be a dick, but from what I've been reading in these threads the last few months, it seems, you can stroll in after noon/12:30 and more often than not get the majority of the cans, if not all of them, with relative ease.

No? If you miss a can, you miss a can, but this seems to be infinitely better than waiting in this God awful humidity for hours. To me, at least.

It honestly depends. If it's a collab with a super hyped brewery chances are the lines going to be insane. We waited in line for 5+ hours for the Street Green/Trillium collab. Got there at 8am give or take, didn't get our beer until after 1pm. This was last November though and the line is much more efficient now than it was then. That said, we also bailed on the Oat Overdose/Tired Hands collab in January when we heard the line was around the block at 7am. Drove down to Kane/Carton to pick up their releases and dropped by Other Half at like 4pm on the way back and were able to buy a case of Oat OD. So, you really never know. Just depends on how much you want the beer and if you're willing to take the risk.

Also a good point. You can show up in the afternoon these days and still get cans, but if you're looking for a specific one off that you're worried will go quick, you're gonna have to do the wait.

Thank you all for your input. It has been very helpful.

I am really hoping to get ACE and Space Diamonds so I guess you're right. Better safe then sorry.

    Thanks again!

So I'm going to be in Brooklyn this Saturday and looking to check out Other Half. I know cans are bi-weekly, but is there an active tap list for on sight consumption and growlers?

No, they're not very active in regard to updating their BeerMenus page, though you may find it helpful.

Maybe a helpful BA will update us with what they have on later tonight.

Also semi related, I had Always Bet on Green last night for the first time and what a great beer that is!

Thanks for the list and untapped tip! Didn't even think of that! Cheers!

This. Plus, if you miss a can, with the new growler prices you can just pick up some growlers and actually save money. As far as I'm concerned, that leaves the only reason to wait in line early is to try to scoop up sought-after cans for trades. Obviously cans have advantages over growlers for personal consumption too, but nothing that could justify a 3-4 hour wait for me, especially now that price isn't a consideration.

"you can just pick up some growlers and actually save money."

Uh, barely. 64oz of Topical in cans is $4 more than the growler, yes, but the convenience of cans and being able to enjoy them later makes it worth it.

    "sought-after cans for trades"

As much as you may hate it, trading is part of the craft beer culture, hell even breweries trade with each other. If I'm going to grab cans for trade, it's not for malicious reasons (auctioning off cans and posting ISOs everywhere)...it's to trade with friends who have no access to OH. For example, grabbed Topical cans for my friend who lives in Richmond and is a big Veil fan...in return he sent me some Daddy's Home.

Why has line-waiting become so hated in these threads recently? Like anyone that waits in line is a scrub. Some people have (good) reasons for it, too.

Just out of curiousity, do you hold onto cans for IP trades mostly? I haven't been able to get into any trading yet as the idea of shipping tons of boxes sounds very costly.

I am actually looking forward to my first time waiting in line for a OH release. What I'm worried about is the fiance and how long it will take before she gets impatient and wants to leave.

(I need her for my 2x haul)

Whats with all the hate for this beer? Sure it was tart and passionfruit-y but hardly undrinkable.

Ok a few things. First of all, I never said I hate trading. It's just the opposite - I've traded pretty actively in the past. I was just laying out my rationale - unless I'm planning to trade the hyped cans at OH, I won't wait in line for cans. The beers you can get later in the day (Greenprint and Baby Diamonds are perfect examples) are usually just as good, and often better, than the more-hyped cans.

As for your point about growlers vs. cans, I specifically stated in my post that cans have some advantages for personal consumption, which you omitted when you quoted me. Convenience is one of those advantages. But getting up at the ass-crack of dawn on a weekend and waiting hours in line is inconvenient, especially when I can just walk in later in the day and get most (and sometimes all) of what I want in cans and the rest in growlers. Also, because OH counter-pressure fills growlers, I've had them hold up for many weeks - I'm sitting on a growler of TD right now that I plan to crack in a week or so.

Finally, I'm not "hating on" people who stand in lines, I don't care how other people spend their time. All I can do is explain I personally don't wait in lines, at least at Other Half.

It can get pretty expensive to ship all over the place, but if you live in or near NY you can probably do a decent amount of IP trading. In the past, I've done IP trades with OH for Grimm, Carton, Tree House, Alchemist, Trillium - you name it. People are always passing through NYC that aren't able to make it to OH releases that have beer from around the Northeast (and elsewhere), so it's pretty easy to do, especially for the more-hyped cans.

No I mostly ship. It is a costly hobby.

Yeah I figured coordinating IP trades while on line for releases might be easiest and more cost effective.

I have not had "Topical Depression," but was thoroughly impressed with "IdonteverwanttoBU." Consequently, one can only assume the magnitude of greatness TD could have been, based on a 0 IBU profile. Perhaps it's Citra and Mosiac (Veil) v. Galaxy and Citra (OH/Veil) that makes the difference, but I find that hard to believe.

In any case, was thinking about grabbing a growler, but this negativity has me in a predicament

I had the TD last night for the first time. I thought it was very full of flavor. I am just having a hard time with the 0 IBU beers. I need that bitter punch at the end I guess. Felt the same way about IdonteverwantoBU. Great nose, good flavor, no punch. Just a personal preference though.
