Is that a "Swagger Like Us (Remix)" reference?

Figured I would post here instead of pissing people off in the Grimm thread. Just had Grimm Lumen on draft, and it was great. Followed that with a (or 2) draft(s) of No Layups, and holy smokes it is dialed in, and better than Lumen IMO by a good margin. Sort of reminds me of what Mastermind originally tasted like (black/white can), just phenomenal stuff. They need to put this in the rotation permanently, ahem @Kanger make it happen please.

I agree.. I hope to see No Layups on the regular. Same thing with City Slickers.

Awesome, still need to try this beer. Maybe I'll try to track it down tonight. Also, not sure why this would piss off people in the Grimm thread. Lumen is great but a single IPA up next to a double IPA, it's not surprising the DIPA is better.

I had to remind myself of this fact when comparing the new Grimms to the more recent OH beers. With that in mind, I came to appreciate Forcefield and Magnetic Compass a lot more

I don't buy the single vs double argument as much as everyone else I guess. I understand it is 1.5% more in abv, and you can cram a ton more hops in a double. Just because it is a double doesn't make it better or easier to make it actually taste good and have balance for that matter. I would argue it is more difficult with a IIPA because you have to fight the sweetness from more malt, the burn from the added alcohol, and the potential for it becoming overly bitter. Focal is a single IPA, and its better than No Layups (IMO). Sure maybe I picked the best of the best, but still. Fort Point is an APA it is stands toe to toe with both of these. Also, if you look at Treehouse I would take Alter Ego over Doppel pretty every day of the week. Single vs Double with the same base, and the single is better. So I am not convinced that argument holds water.

Furthermore, most triples are not as good as doubles sticking with the trend. Few can do it well without it being a malt bomb or being really hot. Double Sunshine > Triple Sunshine.

That said, Lumen is great and I am glad to have had the chance to have this batch since I am not chasing cans around town. No Lay Ups is one of the best beers OH has put forth in the last year, taking a back seat to only a small handful (2nd Anny, Street Green as examples).

Being an OH thread, will add that Baby Diamonds > Green Diamonds.

I don't think anyone was making such an absolute statement... merely that it's a reference point to keep in mind.

I'll see your post and raise you Baby Diamonds>Green Diamonds>Small Green Everything.

I yearn to relive the first canning of Baby Diamonds. What a great beer.

Yea, I definitely wasn't making an absolute statement. I find that top-end DIPAs are more often better than top-end IPAs, but this definitely isn't absolute. With Trillium, for instance, I prefer most of the DDH IPAs to their DIPAs. On average though, I find that the 8%-8.5% range is the sweet spot for IPAs (I think No Lay Ups is in that range?), at least for me. And my favorite IPAs overall are definitely in that range - Very Hazy, Tesseract, Swish, S&S #4, etc.

Agree with this 100%. Green Diamonds is good, but pretty far from the top of my personal DIPA list. Baby Diamonds, on the other hand, is my favorite session IPA.

Totally agree with this! I was so sad when @Kanger said it was green diamonds instead of baby diamonds for this past release (moreso because of how good baby diamonds was, nothing against green diamonds). That canning run was absolutely fantastic

As an aside I happened to be in Boston this weekend for the TH anniversary, and the new trillium/OH collab is fantastic. SO much mango going on...very good stuff

Finally tried No Layups tonight and it honestly blew me away. If I didn't know I would have thought it was a HF IPA. Thoroughly impressed, pretty sure it's my favorite OH beer.

OH + Galaxy hops = magic. Fools don't recognize.

EDIT: Given your reference, I should also say I'd drink this all day over Double Galaxy, though Double Galaxy is also a great beer.

Apropos the OH and HF comparisons, any thoughts on Double Citra vs All Citra Everything? I see the former popping up around the city and have never had it; really loved ACE.

Agree, Double Galaxy is great but I think I liked this more, surprisingly. Would love to trade them side by side. Double Citra and S&S #4, on the other hand...

I love Double Citra and think it blows ACE (and most IPAs) out of the water. Full disclosure though, I wasn't a huge fan of ACE.

    OH Citra>All Citra Everything

I don't think I enjoyed All Citra as much as others did. Doesn't even have a spot in my top 10 favorite OH beers.
