Well I'm 27 and in the best shape of my life, so bring on the heavy lactose sugar, pour in the oats and wheat, and serve it up no less than 10% because I'm going to live forever.

I'd say 4 miles at a 7:30 pace...which is my standard. So a run to Other Half = one pint for me.

I actually prefer OH's stuff at 8.5% and above. I find their pales to be too oat/lactose heavy with no carb. I'm basing this off the most recent DDH Oh... I had. It was boozy for even 6% then tasted like oats and sugar.

Been there multiple times and they are probably my favorite brewery at the moment. Outrageous stuff on all sides (hoppy pales, pils/lagers, and the saisons are world class)

My point about ABV was in general, not specific to OH.

That said, I liked the ddh Citra Daydream I got yesterday. And I’m a big fan of ain’t nothing (both versions)

Yeah Aint Nothing is one of my favorite new releases of theirs. Their core beers are solid. Their collabs lately have been hit or miss.

I'm excited for Grimm to open up, I think they are going to push the NYC craft beer scene moreso than OH in the coming years. Mainly, because of their versatility and better aesthetic sensibilities. Other Half is reminding me a lot of Roberta's Pizza/Black Tap with the hype and attitude. Definitely not a bad thing.

I think 7-ish% is the sweet spot for me, most of the best stuff I've had lately has been between 6.8% and 7.2%. The West Coast hazies I've had lately have been better than anything I've had from OH in a while besides DDH Double Citra Daydream.

Yeah I’m with you on Grimm. My big “want” from them (which I’m hoping will come about by having their own facility) is to expand out beyond the hoppy/imperial stout/sour rotation. I think they could do some cool shit across a bunch of styles.

Although OH is currently making my favorite IPAs, I think Grimm is arguably the best brewery in terms of pushing out a variety of styles with high quality, and they are only going to get better once they are producing locally.

Agreed, I think they are in a great spot to do so. They already have cache in the hyped IPA game. Make killer stouts and helped bring about dry hopped sours to the mainstream. They are also incredibly talented brewers. Dedicated and passionate about the craft. Once they control their whole operation from every bolt to every pint glass they will be dominant.

I think it will prove to be a misstep by Other Half (really what to I know though, its fun to discuss anyways) to go in the direction they have. Eventually the hype haze craze will die down and other breweries will catch up which is already happening. I'm not even sure its hop haze any more as it is DDH everything hopped up oatmeal milk Keep in mind, this is focusing on the niche of niche craft beer nerds, obviously. Other Half's business model will still be wildly successful (see the Wall St. bros) and they will Make It Rain for the coming years. But eventually they are going to run out of hyped names to add on to each beer and be left with their core offerings.

My main hope is we get more proper mixed ferm stuff like the Cube Cuvee and Rebus series, those are awesome. I don't care much for their dry hopped sours, they just taste like slightly tart IPAs.

Back to OH... I'm outta town this weekend and wondering whether or not the SC collab will make it til Monday. Based on previous batches it should be safe but I think with few other all-star releases and this being their first dance together... it may not be.

Soooo you're not over the hype and the direction OH has gone in recently?

These two things can exist at the same time: I can be over the hype and I can still want to try their new beers.

I'm not going to wait in line for it but would love to try it. I've loved everything I've had from Sand City. I can tell you that my overall OH consumption and purchases have dropped over the past few months.

Hot take, DDH Citra + Galaxy is going to the best thing released this week. Collabs are almost always overrated and AIE is basically just Mylar Bags with Motueka instead of El Dorado.

I've been buying less OH and buying more of other local options lately. Not to shit on OH because they're still my favorite hoppy brewer in the area. But there are so many good options that are easier to get then OH. I only really buy OH cans if they are still available on Sundays.

walked in this afternoon, got 4 different types of cans, walked back out in less than 2 minutes. That's pretty good as far as I'm concerned. Yes, I miss the old room and the days of a handful of people standing around drinking, but I'm more than happy to trade it for this easy an experience for neighborhood folks that just want to stop in and grab some beer.
