They've been doing case limits on Green Diamonds since day 1. Only problem I see is the price increase.

For reals? Is that speculation? A rumor? Heresay?

I feel like the high limits and summer being over means that cans won't be lasting until Sunday (or Tuesday or Wednesday) anymore. And I think that's probably how they want it. The new growler pricing really makes that way less of a concern for me now, so good on them for making that adjustment too.

I think the demographic of NYC beer is a lot different then when OH first came out and were ruled kings of nyc. Other breweries were forced to put on their A game and with all the new breweries popping up and showing out it's a more spread out market then it was. Even with case limits i don't see many people chalking up all the cash particularly when theres breweries who will evidently do releases the same week wether it be grimm finback interboro greenpoint or threes, theres far too many options. when other half created limits it was to spread around their beer for more people to try but i think they've created enough of each beer to allow that to happen ( centrifudge)

I think there is still another big segment of people who have given up or make less of an effort to get OH cans because of the lines that will jump back in the game if they think they get cans with a minimum of effort. If some of the demand subsides, I think it would be filled very quickly by the people on the sideline now.

If they can move all of it in a day, why not do it? They've stated on many occasions that it's a logistical problem to have pallets of beer clogging up their very limited space. I think that's mostly it. They almost always have the beer available on draft as well, so it's generally on hand for people who visit on non can days to try and bring home in a growler. No reason to keep inventory around.

I think the comparison is just a tad off though. What you're saying does sound correct in the grand scheme of things, but thats as a whole. I wouldn't compare Maine Dinner (their most wanted beer) to GD (an almost monthly offering) and a couple of new beers NO ONE has even tried yet. They're most likely a case limit because the name isn't bringing in the crowds that a Treehouse/Other Half collab would bring. Or another Tired Hands/Other Half collab would bring. They're giving the opportunity to spread a newer beer by giving it out more. If a beer is a 12 can limit, most likely its not going to be that hard to get either way. I'm not trying to argue but the "Whalez Crew" aren't to the ones to hype any beer up just because they have more for trade....

I could care less if their cans don't last until Sunday or any day after that anymore. If I can get some cans around 12:00 on release day I'll be happy.

Here's hoping their expansion will solve some of these problems.

Don't concede that bigger allotments is a problem, that's ridiculous!

OH is brewing so much more beer than they have in the past. The popularity of the beer has grown enormously. That they're able to offer allotments as big as they do and that those allotments last beyond the initial surge of customers is awesome. Look at Monkish and their 1-2 4pks per beer or Tree House with 6-12 cans per person. I bet Green Diamonds lasts throughout the day possibly into Sunday or longer. Most of us aren't looking to max on 4 cases knowing more OH is coming out in 2 weeks, Lambo Door is on the horizon, and all the other beer.

Somebody already mentioned growler prices, but seriously, bigger allotments on Saturday + cheaper growler fills all the rest of the week (Monday is the only day they're not open!) combine to be awesome. Also their beer just gets easier and easier to find around town for pours or fills. I get that not everyone wants to feel locked into a 32 (or 64!) oz growler, but it seems most nights that I have one can, I have two cans.

To anybody that is turned off by all of this, Greenpoint's beer this weekend will be as good as everything OH is releasing and should be obtainable without much fuss. Also Interboro is releasing cans Friday (you could knock out both of those in one quick Greenpoint/Williamsburg trip). LIC will release cans again soon and it's incredible how little fuss there was obtaining their amazing cans of beer all week!

It is hilarious to me that more beer can be misconstrued as a bad thing here. Thank you, OH, for pumping out more and better beer each passing week. Green Diamonds is one of the best DIPA I've had the pleasure of buying, and knowing that I can get a case of it (probably later than noon) as well as a case of 3 other beers, and then go stop at Interboro or Greenpoint? Crazy pants.

Hitting up Interboro & Greenpoint on Friday. OH on Saturday. Lambo Door right around the corner. What a time to be a craft beer drinker in NYC.

Why would anyone buy a case of beer that that's never even been tapped? I admit OH's quality and consistency has improved greatly over the years, but I can't imagine dropping $100+ on a beer that isn't a sure thing unless it was to trade most of it. Maybe I answered my own question?

    I can understand your outrage.

Not sure why anyone would think to ask a beer related question on a site where people talk about beer.

People want their beers. They are making more of it. How is this a bad thing?! The only way I can see it going wrong is they start making more and the quality goes down, but it seems as though the opposite is happening thus far.

No complaints here. I moved out of Brooklyn 4 months ago and I can go get a couple cases every 6-8 weeks? Pretty ideal.

Good point, I just assumed more varieties + higher limits = more beer.

As far as I know they've been canning on Thursday and Friday. Which makes for 4 beer releases (2 beers each day of canning). If they increase the limit but make the same batch amounts then yes, fewer people get beer IF more people actually go rogue and buy full allotments of a case each.

Would I like to continue and stroll in around noon to buy beer? Absolutely! But if you want the beer bad enough, line up for it.

Didn't think the question warranted people to get annoyed. Considering how pissed off beer store employees get when they're receiving dozens of calls from beer geeks asking about cans like Grimm, I try to avoid that. I rather ask the beer geeks themselves, and spare the poor guy working behind the register. I feel worse when the place isn't even a beer store (ie: whole foods, Court Street).
