That doesn't sound bad at all. Good quality beers though.

Other half growlers are expensive. The brewery sells 64oz Oat overdose for $30 64oz 2nd Anniversary for $40. So thats $70.. Good beer cost money, You have to travel for good beer. I wouldnt mind paying extra for not standing in lines for 3 to 4 hours.

I paid $26 for a 64oz Oat Overdose at the brewery on the anniversary day. Definitely pricey but I really enjoyed it from the can and it was probably my last time drinking it. I don't know if I'd do $40 for the anniversary though.

No, good beer doesn't have to be expensive. There is no reason for 64oz of IPA to cost more than $25.

So what if you were to get a growler of Heady Topper, just saying, you would expect to pay $25 or less?

#1 reason Supply over Demand. If people stopped waiting on lines this beer would be $10.99 a 6 pack. Do you really think it cost other half $20 to make a 4 pack. At the end of the day its business. Everyone who had kegs of there stuff is sold out. People travel for good beer.

If heady saved me a trip to vermont i would pay $40 for it easy.

This used to be true before there were 85 million breweries in every state. Good beer, more often than not, simply equals fresh beer. You can get fresh, local beer basically everywhere in America nowadays.

There may be a small number of truly "great" beers that are still worth traveling for, but as the craft movement grows this should become less and less true. Hype and status drive price just like they do for most other consumer products. There are most definitely diminishing returns on increasing quality, but as long as people care about having things that other people can't have that won't matter.

Maybe they do - but its not really necessary these days as @almostjay pointed out.
But as droves of beer geeks flood OH for can releases it obviously shows that they can charge whatever they can get away with. Before seeing these prices I used to think SingleCut's growler prices were insane.

If growlers of that existed, yes absolutely I would expect it to be $25 or less. A good comparison is Hill Farmstead, where 2L growlers of their DIPAs are consistently under $25 (Double Galaxy currently $22 at the brewery). Since Heady is also made in VT I'd expect a similar price point. Also, Heady is like $14/4-pack, which is much cheaper than AGE already.

Part of the reason OH charges so much is probably due to what is surely very expensive Brooklyn rent and other related expenses to having a brewery in the most expensive city in the country. But part of the reason is most surely "because they can" - there's no other reason they charge twice as much for growlers than cans despite cans costing them more. I'll willingly pay it though as long as they keep making great beer.

I believe the idea of breweries charging more for growlers is to not undercut the stores that are selling same growlers.

For the most part this seems to be true but for example Barriers sells their Simple Cali Common and Icculus Kolsch for $12 at the brewery - usually these are at least $16 at stores. And I think Lights Out is $14 on site too. Luckily for me I do drink non-IPAs alot - but maybe its seems that all local breweries price their IPAs really high b/c its the most popular style by far?

Considering a 4 pack of Heady is like $14, you bet your ass it better be less than $25.

Worst comparison ever. A 4 pack of 16 oz cans of HT is 14 bucks. Thats 64 oz = a full growler. So yes, you would never expect to pay more than even $18 for a growler of heady

I agree there is no realistic reason why a 32 oz of 2nd anni costs $20 bucks besides the reason that they can. Did a 4 pack of the 2nd anni cost 40 bucks? Doesn't it cost more to can than fill a keg?

I think you can avoid undercutting without ****** your customers. Their growler prices are outrageous and this is from an OH fan.
