Shame I missed this. But on the bright side, did the Neversink Invitational bike race in the Catskills today, and the beer at the post race BBQ was exclusively kegs of Other Half

Great meeting up with all of you guys, let's do it again soon!

Other Half brews some seriously well crafted beer, just stupid delicious.

We can all thank @markgugs for that Susan it was supposed to be his but circumstances prevented it.

I had it at St. Gambrinus when Other Half did a tap take over. I don't remember what it tasted like, but my notes say "Interesting Stuff." so I'm assuming I liked it. Ha!

How is the New York state growler fill laws? Can I bring my SS growler to the Other Half brewery to get filled so I can take it back to SoCal?

Yes, but it must be screw top and fit their machine. They do sell their growlers though. But they are only open for very limited hours, only Friday night and the weekend.

I have a SS flip top growler. So they won't fill it?

Bummer. . . .do they have SS growlers? Or just bottles? Cost for growlers? Heard really good things about their IPA's. Maybe I'll just check out beer menus and see if they have anything in lower Manhattan that I can stop in and try. I posted in another thread about being in NYC for a very quick overnight trip this week.

They are only open Friday night and weekends, so don't think that corresponds with your trip. They have their own screw top growlers in 32 and 64 ounces. Not sure of prices but I think only $5 or so for growler. All their beer is draft, no bottling yet. You will likely be able to find their stuff in Manhattan and definitely Brooklyn. You can get to some bars in Brooklyn pretty quickly by subway from downtown.

Being you are from Cali, I think you could get me or someone else to trade you a growler too. Let us know how it turns out this week.

Thanks. I just found a bunch of Other Half beers on tap at Cooper's Crafts & Kitchen near where I'll be hanging out. Price is bit high buy thats cool. Might be there in time for happy hour. Hope some will still be on tap when I get in. Then over to Rattle n Hum for more beers. Thanks for the info on Other Half. I'll let you know if trades are in order. And yes I forgot I won't be there on Friday when the Other Half is open. Duh! :astonished:

Sorry to beat a dead horse guys but can anyone confirm:

These are the correct hours: Friday 5-9pm, Saturday noon-8pm, Sunday 12-6pm?

Fill any 32 or 64oz growler as long as it's not swing top?

Do they do counter pressure fills? Anyone store a growler for a while (do they last a week or two unopened)?

TIA. Looking to make my first trip this weekend.

FYI-I have had several unopened growlers sitting in my beer fridge for 3-5 weeks with no problems. But I find the SS swing top to be the best. As long as it is filled to the very top. You should have problem. But yes, drink it fresh is the best.

Those hours should be correct. They also post them as the weekend arrives: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Other-Half-Brewing-Company/181017618761260.

Yes, they fill any brand growler. I've read earlier in this thread that they don't counter pressure for the swing tops. I don't know if that means they won't fill swing tops. I think I've growler fills straight from the tap without the counter pressure device.

I lost a bit of carb from my growler after it got knocked over in the car and I heard the growler hissing and slightly oozing foam out. So just make sure the cap is on extra tight (not an issue with swing top), secure your growler when transporting it, into the fridge immediately when you're home, and you're all good to go.

    Enjoy.

Out of curiosity, do one (or both?) of you work at Beer Culture?

Always cool to see people on a forum get together and have a good time.

Thanks for the info. I'm still a little confused about whether they fill swing tops at all, their swing tops only, or if they'll fill swing tips but they won't be counter pressure filled. Regardless I'll just bring screw tops and tighten the shit out of them!

They won't fill swing tops. They will only fill with their machine which only fits certain growlers. It is a very small operation there and that dictates some of their policies.
