Interesting info I got doing research trying to understand a fresh batch of Cool Summer having a strong fecal smell to some, none to others.

Of course, the possibility of a rogue keg being the culprit, one that had a clostridium family, or other, infection creating sufur aroma as it carves sugars, while the other kegs the rest of us tasted all were fine, occurred to me. However I came across this very interesting article concerning aroma perception:

    https://beersensoryscience.wordpress.com/tag/aroma/

from article, speaking of esters: "Another example comes from the flavor standard “indole”, which has been known to elicit a floral jasmine-like aroma for a certain portion of the population, while the rest of the population smells fecal material. That part is interesting enough, but what’s even more so is that, for me, I can smell it both ways. Like an optical illusion, I can “flip” my brain’s interpretation of this aroma back and forth at will. It’s really an interesting experience to be smelling a nice flowery flavor standard one second, then in the next second your nose is full of poop."

The words hipster needs to stop being used. People don't even understand who/what they're referring to when using it.

And agreed a while back, W'burg was not the best place to hang out (I seem to remember reading/hearing a story about the BK brewery guys being robbed at gunpoint), but we're talking a bit further back then 5 years ago. 5 years ago it was perfectly safe to park your car there

interesting because when my friend has some he said it smelled floral... for me it was pure poop. this may explain it.

It's used by anyone living outside of NYC to refer to anyone living in NYC.

Yeah they got robbed back in 1995 for $30,000. But 2009 Williamsburg was already beyond gentrified. I should know, I was living there in 2008.

The only time I felt a little nervous about being in Williamsburg was back in 1999 going to shows at Galapagos and the entire area was a poorly lit ghost town. Granted kind of crazy to think that Mug's has been there since 1992.

Brooklyn Brewery used to have hardcore punk shows back in the early days, i remember coming up to NYC in like '97 to see a band called Asstroland play there, and I remember it being pretty gnarly.

Anyways, back to the original topic - OH just tweeted:
anyone know if they're doing growlers of those?

I had some of Cool Summer, Bro yesterday via a pint to go from Beer Table Pantry... i liked it a lot, did not fecal, but towards the end funky aminal cage-like (hay/urine), but it was good, I dug the funky...

Haha, when I was a much younger man, I'm guessing very early 2000's I went to Galapagos a few times to see some bands. Weird place. Not a bad venue, but yeah, much different neighborhood back then. I was going to L'amour's and Castle Heights (queens) to see hardcore/punk shows throughout the 90s though, so Galapagos felt like a social club to me in comparison.

It wasn't the dirty, gritty area it was in the 80s and 90s though. The "change" was definitely in flux even at that point. Christ, there's an Ikea in Red Hook now. For awhile too. That still amazes me.

If the kegs are ready, and they were tasting this week, I have to imagine the BA saison bottles are probably going to be released soon.

@Kanger - you never posted a review of your BA Impy... thoughts?

My wife and I just had the BA saisons and they were both awesome. The laaste ronde had a really great whiskey flavor, the V love was really really good, I liked that one better.

They said it will be a little while before the BA V-love will be ready in bottles - it was too carbed

I know a hipster when I see one…they own surfboards and long boards that don’t get used

I admit I have friends that are hipsters…it’s cool I buy all their boards in 5yrs for 20c/$

Hope to take my first trip to O/H today to see what you guys keep talking about….cheers

You may be in luck, All Green Everything looks like it is still flowing, get it before it disappears. And of course the rest of the great beer. Enjoy!

I'm here now. Enjoying the Chardonnay barrel aged veldrijden. I'm wearing glasses and have a musical blue bird on my shirt.
