That's the downside of these mobile canning companies - high prices. But $14 still seems really high. I get Boat for ~$10/4 pack from stores in NJ. Comparable product, both using Iron Heart, for 40% less? Doesn't seem to add up.

Are Boat cans 12 ounces or 16 ounces?

16 oz 4 packs. Same as Superfun right?

Yeah. Seems like way too much IMO. But I'm sure it'll sell just fine anyway. I'm just nervous what GD would be priced at if this is $14. For comparison pricing, I'll stick with Carton since they use the same mobile canning company:

    16 oz 4 packs:
    077XX - $12
Epitome - $18ish (if I remember right. Definitely upper teens.)

    12 oz 4 packs:
    Regular Coffee - $16ish

And FWIW, these are store prices - not directly from the brewery.

Wondering same thing on GD. At twice the ABV it should be more expensive, how much I guess depends on impact of canning costs.

I just hope these "special releases" don't turn into a shit show. We know how people get whipped into a frenzy when words like "special release", "limited", "barrel aged" get associated with a beer. Superfun is a very good beer for what it is, but one of MANY good to great beers OH has produced, certainly doesn't warrant any lines. Last summer beers like this were coming out every week and anyone could show up at the tap room and drink them to their hearts delight.

Wish OH all the success and money that comes their way, great beer and great place.

Well said. The price point is definitely concerning, the GD 4 packs are gonna be like $20 if this is any indication...but still happy OH is ready to start canning. I'll be there tomorrow to grab a few 4 packs, hoping its not a complete shitshow over there for a middle of the road OH beer but its probably gonna happen.

Carton uses Iron Heart constantly so I'm sure their canning price is much lower than the one time canning OH did.

I just don't seee how $3.50 for a 16oz serving is pricey. Esp for something that is probably only going to be canned once.
Sure if this became their main production cans distributed to stores then $14 might be a little steep for 4 cans.

Are you guys telling me you wouldn't pay $5 (+tip) at a bar for a pint of Superfun?

Of course I would. But that's a dangerous comparison to make. Comparing on premise prices to off premise. Two different beasts. Could you imagine the prices we'd be paying in stores if we, as consumers, expected bar prices in stores? I dk about you, but I couldn't afford it.

Pulling up a local bar, 077XX is $7 for a 16 oz pour. .44 cents an ounce. That then makes that 4 pack we were talking about earlier $28. I'd find a new hobby.

EDIT: Actually, I'd probably open up a goddamn liquor store, and rake it in while you suckers paid for that haha.

EDIT 2: And I understand that you allowed for some wiggle room in the price you suggested, but my argument still remains.

Def here what you're saying @Kanger but comparing bar prices to pick up at the brewery doesn't seem like a good comparison. Mark-ups at stores/bars are a given, but when you get cans directly from the brewery we should be seeing much lower prices. IMO of course!

I'm talking about tap room prices though.

12oz pour of Superfun in the tap room was $5. 16oz pour was $6. (these were last summer's prices)

64 oz growler of Superfun was $14.

So $14 for 4 16oz cans is the same price they have always charged for Superfun.

And $4 for 16oz can is cheaper than a 12oz pour!

Here's a menu pic I took last July:

Well, @Kanger, you've definitely got me thinking. I don't really do the growler thing very often, but it looks like growlers of Boat at stores are in the $10 range as well - same as the 4 packs. (Although a growler in NY is listed at $20 - gross)

Now, I still stand by my opinion that $14 for a 4 pack of 16 oz cans of a Session IPA is way too much, but it seems like maybe these are just standard NY prices. So I guess the moral of the story for me is that I'm glad I don't have to pay that much for stuff here in NJ.

That is impressive that you have that picture still. If GD, SF and SGE were on now would be on my way there now! Ah, the good old days!

I hear what you are saying on prices, but as others have said you need to compare apples to apples.

Yeah NYC prices can be ridiculous compared NJ prices. I think Torst charges $5 for an 8oz pour of Boat. I'm also assuming that OH pays a lot more in rent in Brooklyn than Carton does in Atlantic Highlands.

I do agree with you that session IPA should be cheaper. That's why I love Founder's Brewer's Dozen 15 packs of All Day since it's so cheap. But since Superfun is the same price growler/can ounce, then I have no complaints.

Yeah forgot that Wheat Wine came out that long ago. Here is the menu from the first time I visited soon after the tap room opened:

Definitely miss those earlier days of almost all IPAs. Think I am going to skip tomorrow and make trip on Thursday. If they still have cans, great. If not, I can just get a growler of Superfun!
