Looks like a new sour ipa in the tap room today

Laid Back - A sour peach IPA brewed with oats, wheat, lactose, peaches and vanilla. Hopped with Citra, Galaxy, and Motueka.

Probably too much to expect this to come close to comparing to HVB, but man I'm hoping.

I'm sure it's not too much to expect it to come close to HVB. They've been brewing for what a year or two?

devil's advocate here. The collabing brewery actually brews the beer with OH, and the collab doens't want to show up at 6AM and stay for 10+ hours to do 2 brews, as a double batch would need. So collabs are just single batches

devil's advocate's advocate also here. The collabing brewery and OH just formulate the recipe together, take a picture in front of some stainless to post on instagram, and some $40k/yr assistant brewer brews up the recipe, twice, over 12 hours.

Its probably the later, I know for fact some of the collabs have been double batches.

HVB hasn't been open long but the brewers have been around a while, I believe they were at Bacchus before opening HVB. And in my experience, nobody knows how to do sour IPAs as well as them, largely because they are heavily focused on blending beers as opposed to quick kettle sours.

Just a few untappd reviews up, but it looks promising!

Even though Bacchus has a solid line up of world class beers under their belt, I’m sure OH doesn’t release the first sour IPA they attempt. It’s likely they’ve been at this for awhile in hopes to catch up to breweries like Bacchus.

I would love it if OH started figuring out how to do blended barrel-aged sours, but I haven't been impressed at all so far with their farmhouse program. Fingers crossed!

My understanding is that HVB uses a very unique process. Here's an article from last year that explains a bit about how they do things... https://oct.co/essays/hudson-valley-brewery-its-not-about-brewing .

Is there anyone in line at Other Half right now? Curious how long the allotments will last today.

They’re doing wristbands? I’m hoping Space will last, was thinking about grabbing some on my way to Sixpoint.

Anyone have a rough idea of what the can supply is looking like? Debating whether I should stop at OH before or after hitting up Sixpoint. Going after would make my trip a lot easier.

The sour IPA (Laid Back) is very promising. Not quite Hudson Valley level of beer/cocktail/food fusion greatness, but they nailed the whole peaches ‘n cream thing. I think it’s a touch heavy handed with the vanilla and residual sugar, but if they’re able to dial in the style moving forward, I could see this style becoming OH’s next big move (esp since they’ve really exhausted the DDH and oat cream styles at this point).
