First off, sorry about the tedious, tourist-y question.

My brother and I are going to be in Brooklyn over the weekend of April 6th/7th and would like to visit the Other Half taproom. Unfortunately, however, we can only make it there on the Saturday, so I'm wondering just how crowded it would be if we went earlyish, like 1pm? We're not interested in buying cans or whatever, we just want to try a couple fresh beers and be on our way.

The taproom is very small but I usually hang out for a pour or 2 after the releases and find it fine if you don't mind it being a little crowded. Now you won't have anywhere to sit, but if you don't mind standing around drinking some delicious beer, then you should be fine.

That being said, if you're going to be in the city, there are a lot of places that get kegs of their stuff around the city where it may be a better atmosphere for hanging out. I understand the appeal of visiting the brewery itself though.

Thanks, man. Yeah, I wouldn't expect seating, just a glass of something tasty. And I've seen that quite a few bars get their stuff on tap, so maybe I'll just see how we go on Thursday and Friday...

by 1pm the can rush should be mostly gone and you should be able to get a pour or two fairly easily. I'd honestly just look at the threes taplist that day though if you're only looking to get a couple pours...good chance they have other half beers on as well as suarez, HF, interboro, and of course their own stuff...and you'll be able to sit, relax, eat etc...Understand if you'd like to visit OH though, but it's certainly not much of an attraction other than the fact that they have a large amount of OH brews on tap in one location...

It'll be busy for sure if there is a can release but beers were great
And well priced and excellent service

Don't even bother. Take the F train to 2nd Ave in the city for the Suarez Family and Tired Hands tap takeover at Fool's Gold at noontime. Maybe get a pastrami at Katz Deli. Other Half is still busy on Sunday's but usually not as bad as Saturday's.

Is this tongue in cheek? Like the proverbial unhelpful BA response to an out of towner's question?

I'm from out of town and won't be in town for this and was just browsing the thread for future planning, but if I got this kind of event tip, I would find it very helpful.

    The gist of the OP:

    Visiting Brooklyn
    Weekend of 6th/7th
    Wants to visit OH
    Wants to drink OH
    Can only go on Saturday

    Recommendation:

    Event in Manhattan
Suarez/TH event (ie that day Fools Gold will be one of a very small number of bars probably NOT serving OH)
Event is happening weekend before OP is here
Finishes up by saying Sunday better day to go to OH

    How is that remotely helpful?

Boy, I miss NYC threads. Even the bad information can be useful and entertaining.

I am definitely interested in this FG event.

Will you be there Saturday the 8th? Threes has a saison event going on that day and if you're into the style I wouldn't miss it.

Every thread on BA essentially becomes a derivative of "what is your favourite brewery".

Wasn't there one the other day. A dad staying in Carroll gardens asking for local bars that had good beer and were kid friendly. Naturally someone said to go to finback

While the can rush will be mostly gone by 1pm, the tap room will likely be full of people who missed out on cans filling up on growlers to fill the can shaped holes in their hearts.

Taproom will be slammed all day.

If you go around 1 on a Saturday, the taproom will still have a decent crowd of people who are hanging out after the can release. But there's ample spill-over space in the brewing area/garage. You may need to wait on line for a few minutes to get served a beer, but you won't have any issue hanging out and having a few.

Oh, the rest of the afternoon is going to be spent at Threes! I've just been wondering if a diversion to OH will be worth it if the taproom is going to be insanely busy. We'll be going to a bunch of other great New York bars over the weekend e.g. Fool's Gold, Proletariat, Gingerman, Torst, etc., but drinking at an actual brewery is often such a unique and fun experience. Anyway, many thanks for your comment!

Thanks for making my case, dude, I appreciate it. I think Pinyin was just trying to steer me in the direction of a better beer event for an out of towner, which is also appreciated.

Honestly, I'm not sweating any of this shit. I know that a few days in New York means that I will be drinking gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood for those few days, whatever the specifics.

Strong Rope is small but good brewery between OH and Threes. If OH is too busy you could stop by there (you should probably go there anyway). They have a lot of variety, especially if you're a weirdo who likes things other than IPAs
