I am visiting Ottawa at the end of June and I am looking for suggestions anyone has for finding great beer either on tap or in Bottle Shops. I am up to speed on how Ontario handles beer sales, but if there is a specific location that is best, just let me know. I will be pretty limited to downtown area and without transportation other than cabs. If there is a prime spot for finding a nice tap selection or bottle list I would also greatly appreciate the input.

Wanted to throw out the potential for an IP trade while I am in town. I will be limited to IP Kingston on 6/25 in the evening, 6/26 and 6/27AM in Ottawa.
Some things I am ISO (in order of preference):
    BA Peche Mortel
    Solstice D'ete
    Wants
Large format 3F or Cantillon also (I know this arent easy to come by in Ontario)
    Succubus
    Other Le Trou
    Suggestions on other locals

    FT:
    Check my Gots
New Glarus: Berliner, Serendipity, Rapsberry Tart, Strawberry Rhubarb, Belgian Red
Central Waters: BBBW, BBS, BBScotch, Sixteen
    FFF
Maybe some Toppling Goliath hoppy stuff...
Other distro: AleSmith, Black Husky, DFH, Epic, Jolly Pumpkin, Bruery

I won't have a ton of room in the suitcase so preference goes to larger trades. Shoot me a BM and we can chat.

    Thanks,
    Josh

    Hey Josh,

OK, as for beer bars in the downtown core, I would say hit up Beer Brother’s Bistro (great food, a quality beer list and a rotating cast); it’s your best bet. A couple other ‘Ottawa standards’ are The Black Tomato, Clocktower (brew pub with great wings), The Manx and Arrow and Loon (good kind sucks here though). A couple other places are Bite Burger House (awesome burgers/fries and a nice tap list/patio) and the Smoque Shack (never been but heard good things).

    The Wellington Gastropub
is my favorite spot; it has a great tap list, a rotating cask and fantastic food (the menu changes daily). It is not downtown per se, but is an easy bus/cab ride. The have a house beer called Stock Pot Ales which is pretty damn good.

If you are bus savvy or don’t mind an expensive cab ride, L’Autre Oeil is phenomenal and the only place locally where you can find Cantillon on tap (no bottle sales anywhere in town.

    Beyond the Pale
(BTP) is the best local brewery, but no, you cannot get pints there (only small pour samples) and it's primarily growlers only. It is close to the Wellington Gastropub however....

So you know about our lack of bottle shops already so I won’t digress, but the LCBO on King Edward and Rideau has one of the better selections in town.

    Just my $0.02.

I can hook you up with some BA Peche, Succubus, Cantillon (maybe) and JP Bière de Mars (maybe). BM sent.

Thanks so much! This sounds like a pretty amazing summary.

I will keep an eye out for your BM.

mtomlins hit all the key spots. I'd suggest a good afternoon checking out the west-end of the City (Hintonburg/Westboro). Check out Art-is-in for a sandwich at lunch or breakfast, maybe do the War Museum (Mill Street Brewpub is close by, not wonderful, but a lot of beers to try), then walk along Wellington and hit up the Hintonburg Public House, Beyond the Pale, the Wellington, the Corner (has the run of LCBO beers and a few locals, maybe a cask too), the Westboro Clocktower. It's a decent part of town.

Also: could do worse than to check this out now and then:

FYI Bières du Monde has changed its name to Marché des Brasseurs and is currently operating out of Galeries de Hull, which is actually more central.
