Shopping in general on Sunday (including liquor stores) was illegal here until around 15 years ago. Although I respect people's choice to practice religion (I assume that's why alcohol can't be bought on Sunday), I don't believe that it should influence many aspects of life (specifically the purchase of goods).

I guess it must be a case of whether you're breaking other laws at the same time. I would assume you wouldn't get pulled over on suspicion of having out-of-state alcohol in your car. A policy of no enforcement is a reasonable response (if not ideal) since it takes an unreasonable amount of time and effort to change laws. (To be clear, I don't think it should be easy to change all laws, just really silly, outdated ones that are out of touch with the current way of life.)

No, you can only buy growler fills at breweries. Everywhere else I have lived has had stores that fill growlers, 5 minutes away in VT I can get growler fills at the grocery store.

Ohio still has the no liqour and wine on Sunday shit (unless you are in a bar or restaraunt, naturally, where you have to consume it before driving home), but thankfully does not apply to beer (other than specific townships. I have run into that in Cincinnati suberbs before)

The minor thing applie to selling it pretty much the same. I think it is 18 though. Many times another person had to come physically scan it. Of course the 17 year old can still take my money like you said.

Ah I see. That used to be the case in New Brunswick but over the last few years a few liquor stores (run by the government, of course) have acquired growler stations.

Pointless laws. If someone wants to get intoxicated, a cap for ABV has no use.

same with no Sunday liquor sales in stores. But bars are okay. Well gee that encourages drinking and driving especially during football season...

In the story I related to you the State Police must have had some a prior knowledge since they explicitly requested to look in the trunk. My friend's boss did not receive a speeding ticket or any other traffic violation; he just got his wine confiscated.

But like I stated, allegedly this does not happen today.

    Cheers!

That's just plain wrong... and also a lawsuit waiting to happen!

Passengers can drink in moving vehicles in Connecticut.. Makes road trips easy.

Yup. I can go to my local state liquor store and buy a bottle of 151, or a bottle of cheap 80 proof vodka for $6. A 12.1% Bourbon County Barley Wine? That's crazy talk drunk man.

I watched a documentary about Craft Beer awhile back and one of the brewers they showcased (I forget which brewery) was located in Texas and he talked about how it was illegal or difficult to sell their product in Texas. I assume that has changed since the filming of the documentary?

I drive through Connecticut a lot. This could make those traffic jams on 84 easier to take. My wife on the other hand would probably add more stress than I save.

Somewhat. Texas beer laws got overhauled in 2014, due partially to lawsuits (thank you, Jester King). But they're still pretty 19th century.

Lucky! In New Brunswick, any alcohol in a vehicle that isn't in a sealed box or container is considered "open liquor" and is a criminal offence. I've been told that if you have an open case of beer and store it in the trunk you're safe but I'm not even sure on the legality of that practice.

Since unproven rumors are dangerous regarding laws...

    https://www.cga.ct.gov/2005/rpt/2005-r-0152.htm

    "CONNECTICUT LAW

In Connecticut, it is illegal for someone to drink any alcoholic beverage while operating a motor vehicle on a public road; on a road of a specially chartered municipal association or of a fire, sewer, or other special district; in a parking area for 10 cars or more; on a private road on which a speed limit has been established according to law; or on any school property (CGS § 53a-213). It is a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500, imprisonment for up to three months, or both. It is not illegal for a passenger other than the driver to possess or consume alcohol in a motor vehicle."

I hope you all can visit Connecticut soon. We don't have great beer, but as long as you're not the driver, you can enjoy the great beer you picked up in Vermont or Massachusetts in the car as you drive back home through Connecticut.
