I am building an outdoor kitchen, and I'm going to install a kegerator as well. I was looking at the BM-23 as that's what a lot of people talk about on this forum, but I'm not sure it can actually be installed in a cabinet. Can it, or is there another one people recommend that can?
you really do need an outdoor kegerator. you are correct that the BM 23 is not designed to be operated outdoors. all but a few places in the US can you use a BM 23, or any indoor appliance, outside. so if you live in Tuscon, BM 23. if you have clearance you don't have to have front exhaust. otherwise zero clearance outdoor kegerator. http://www.compactappliance.com/SBC...81&utm_medium=aff&utm_campaign=cj&aff_id=1002 never used it, never even seen it. but they are out there. good luck.
Bill why you say the BM23 not designed for outdoor use? I have seen plenty bm23 units hold up in residential installs outside year around for 10+ years right in the elements might end up with bubbling of the vinyl startiing to rust at bottoms but thats it. Bevair claims only the bm23-S is approved for outdoor use
the S-31 is listed for outdoor use. the -S is not. I do believe the only difference is that the S-31 is UL listed. but I really don't know these units so well to say for sure. I see your point though. instead of "designed" it is more accurate for me to have said "approved". I checked the weights of each from Bev Air and they are the same, so it is a good bet the costs difference is for the UL listing, but not certain. but the standard BM 23, black or stainless, is not approved by Bev Air or UL for outdoor use. could be some electrical modifications to get the approval. don't know. I do believe that running a BM 23 outdoors is a bad idea, unless it is covered. if it is not Bev Air brand, or a few others, then probably not a good idea to have it in the elements. we had 4 feet of snow on our deck this year for example. Cheers.
Yeah. I see your point. Oh and when I said year around. Should of added unplugged during the winter months..
