Heading down to Outer Banks in a few weeks again. I usually cannot find a lot of good local NC beer. Any suggestions? Do any of the big hitters distribute over that way? Know of any good bottle shops? I have had the most success at Sweat Teas in Duck.
Go to Trio at around 4.5 mp, imo no reason to go elsewhere for bottle selection. Not sure what big hitters you are looking for, but they will usually have some solid non VA distro choices like Burial, Westbrook (sc), Olde Hickory, etc.
It's been several years since I have been to OBX but I did hear of a new brewery called Northern Outer Banks Brewing Company opened a few weeks ago in Corolla. If you are near Sweet T's then check out Growlers To Go - Duck. The do fills plus have bottles/cans The Bier Box in Corolla also opened for Spring/Summer a few weeks ago. Buffalo City Jug Shop and Outer Banks Brewing Station in Kill Devils Hills Chips is also a good bet but I agree with @montman in that Trio is probably the best spot on OBX....at last time I was down they covered just about all the good stuff the area gets. EDIT: Upon searching more it looks like 1718 Brewing Company opened in Ocracoke last Fall too if you happen to be down that far.
Fish Heads in Nags Head has a reasonable variety of NC beers on tap from what I have heard. There are a few craft breweries in OBX as well and I would expect that the Brew Thru's will have a selection of NC Beer.
Just up the street from sweet t's is Tommys Market. They dont have a big selection, but they do carry some bottles and cans from the local Outer Banks breweries like Outer Banks Brewing Station and Weeping Radish if you want a taste of local offerings.
