I remember back around the time I was drinking age, you could get a 6 pack of cheap beer for around $2.99  maybe even a little less on sale.
Occasionally a pitcher of beer in a bar for $3.00.
Nothin fancy, maybe Natural Light or Rollin Rock, but we didn’t care, it was beer, and it was cold! :sunglasses:

My price threshold these days for an expensive 6 pack depends on how good it might be (good reviews?) or how much I want it.
Sometimes if I just want to try something different I’ll pick something on sale if I’ve never tried it before.

    LOL! Exactly.

My wife has the same fondness for handbags and shoes. Initially, I was pretty shocked by the cost of some of her shoes and bags, but not any more. Plus, she really enjoys shopping and buying them.

She once told me that she decided early on that she would never buy a handbag that cost more than a mortgage payment. Problem is, our house is now paid off, soooo....

I was able to try two of the variants on draft at the brewery last June. They were very, very good, so at least there's that. As I recall, I think I paid $8 or $9 a glass for a 5 ounce pour. So at least by comparison, that 4 pack price doesn't seem too outrageous.

Also... I know you know this, but KBBS is $100 for a 12 ounce bottle. So again... comparatively speaking, that 4 pack price seems like a veritable deal.

Of course none of this excuses the pricing for TG ba stuff, but it is what it is. I asked the bartender at the brewery how much KBBS they would sell in a month (you could only drink it at the brewery), and she indicated they typically sold 2 or 3 bottles a week.

And then of course there's HOTD Dave. IMHO, there are all kinds of limited release, hard to obtain beers that are hugely overpriced. I would call the price for a bottle of Dave absolutely outrageous, but the pricing doesn't shock me. At least not anymore. There are plenty of folks willing to pay the freight for beers like that.

Honestly, I don’t pay that much attention. If a bottle or 6-pack seems overpriced I usually just move on. If it’s a beer I really love and the price seems to have gone up by a lot it will give me pause—usually I’ll pass it by (I’ve had it before, right?) but once in a while I’m willing to splurge. Just not on something I’ve never tried before.
Right. It makes her happy and I certainly waste plenty of money on stuff that makes no sense to her. We keep our finances separate so that helps. Just split all the shared costs 50/50.

You don't know craft beer drinkers very well, do you. FOMO for life will have at least a few people buying that beer, I guarantee.

Truth is, a LOT of it is overpriced, but folks are lining up & buying it, so.....

$18/4packs of pilsners is too rich for me, but different strokes for different folks!

I bought 6 bottles of the 2022 Goose Island barleywine, one of them at a gouged price of $60. I know.

    $83 for a 4x16 is $20.75 per 16oz can.

This translates to $1.29 per ounce.

If the beer is really good, it’s a bargain these days.

Here in STL, Side Project is comfortably $3 to over $4 per ounce.

Which gets me to the question of markups. Heady topper 4 pks at the brewery is still 13.99$

Have you ever tried that beer? It probably tastes like skunk piss in the clear bottle, but I’ve bought cans of it, and to me it’s by far the best Mexican lager that I’ve had. Very hoppy for the style, it’s been a while, but think I liked it better than canned Heineken or Stella.

The price comes out to $1.16 a beer, how can that be outrageously expensive? Maybe I’m looking at the wrong link?

I've had the beer countless times. 1st time easily 25 yrs ago. Last time I got it in Mex I paid about 65 cents per bottle.
Clear bottles don't skunk beer, people do. :beers:

I am aware that beer is priced as a luxury item in beautiful Hawaii.
