Over hopped IPA

    True. The roasted malts in stouts add an espresso like bitterness.

    And yes I was under the impression that ibu are calculated from hops. But don’t quote me on that.

    There's no way to measure perceived bitterness, to my knowledge, as it is a subjective thing.

    The best that you can do is estimate, but, as has been said, IBUs aren't linear, so just because you add more hops doesn't mean that you are going to get more bitterness. There is a saturation point.

    OP here. It turned out pretty damn good actually IMHO! The best homebrew I made yet! I didn’t have to blend or age too long. It was not overly bitter, maybe a bit in the finish, but in a pleasant way. Thanks for all the advice and encouragement fellow BAs!
