Tell us about a trip, whether beer centered or not, that you took overseas and ended up bringing back a nice haul.

    • What country were you in
    • Was there a specific beer you were eyeing
    • Did you pack an empty bag to put the whalez in?
    • Did you leave your clothes in another country (I forced my gf to throw out her shoes once, eek!)
    • Any bad experiences bringing it back to the country/ breaking?
    • Did you leave a whale behind that you for some reason had in your grasp but couldn't bring back.
    • Any Tips
    • Post a picture of your haul.

I lived in Austria for a while back in 2012. I didn't bring home any whalez, but I brought home as many of my favorite local beers as I could fit in my bags. I went to Austria with 1 checked bag and I came home with 2 as a result of my beer purchases. All in all, probably about 20-25 .5L cans/bottles. I was worried about them breaking, but I was lucky and had no problems. That was my biggest haul in a single trip.

I have also flown home with beer, wine, and spirits from Portland, Croatia, France, Bosnia, and Germany on other trips. Never had any breakage. I just meticulously wrap every bottle individually with clothes, newspaper, or whatever else I have. Then I wrap the already wrapped bottles with more clothing. I generally put a sweater or something thicker between the wall of the bag and the beer to give a little extra cushion.

And yes, I have left many things behind to make room for my beverages.
