I traded a crap to someone to get it & not much else. That guy was an A-hole & didn't last long on the site ( at least by that handle ).

About 6 years later I visited my buddy in Florida & he had cases shipped over ( was stationed in NW Germany ). The 2 times I tried it. I will say ABT 12 is on par & far easier to get

Their year round Bourbon Barrel Aged Quad is better than it has any right to be considering it’s price/format/availability

Barrel-Aged Abraxas: Poorly balanced cinnamon bomb. First and only proper whale that I ever managed to get my hands on and I never bothered with landing another one after that. I also tried DB Hunahpu at a tasting and thought it was pretty disappointing as well. I'd honestly rather have KBS or BCBS over either of them and strongly suspect that this would hold true for KBBS as well.

Maine Lunch is one of the IPAs that actually lived up to the hype for me. I love Maine Lunch and Pliny.

Same experience with BA Abraxas here; very unbalanced and just way too much cinnamon. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, KBBS was pretty crappy to me also. Much like BA Abraxas it was very unbalanced, and the adjuncts were in extreme excess for my personal tastes. The coffee and maple overpower any semblance of barrel character and makes it an overly sweet mess. The body and mouthfeel on KBBS were the only enjoyable parts of that beer for me. Doesn't make either beer a bad beer per se because there are thousands of reviews from people who really enjoyed both of those but for my own personal tastes I would lump them in the drain pour category.

Thats the wonderful thing about this hobby we all share, there is a beer out there for everyone's tastes. A beer I absolutely love may be a drain pour to someone else and that's okay. Tastes are subjective so I've never understood why some people like to argue or disagree with someone else's opinion of a particular beer and another reason why I feel the secondary market is ridiculous. Drink what you like but always be open to trying new beers and never let a bad review cause you to miss out on a beer you personally may really enjoy. Cheers!

I think almost anything bourbon barrel aged get too much hype.
I suppose if that's your thing, then drink up. I just don't like them very much.
Same goes for artificially flavored beers, too many to pick just one.
    Also, glitter beer.
Also, condiment beers. How many people actually drank more than one mustard flavored beer?

I agree with you guys. I've had it twice, once when it was duking it out with Pliny for the title of 'Best Beer in the World'. Admittedly I'm not a huge Belgian double/triple/quad drinker, but I remember thinking my order would be Rochefort, Westy, St. Bernardus.

I like bourbon barrel beers and will order new offerings when there's a new one on tap where I can have only one. I won't buy a 4- or 6-pack unless I've heard good hype. I think some breweries with newish barrel programs just put a regular stout or porter into a barrel and think it will automatically sell.

That mustard beer must be a local thing because I’ve never seen one. I'd probably pass on it. I saw a pickle beer at the store yesterday, snickered then passed on it.

It was not bourbon aged (it was rye barrel aged) but I am a BIG fan of this year's release (2022 brewed) Lagunitas Willetized Stout. I bought a four-pack and I wish I had bought another.

    Cheers!

P.S. There was also coffee used in brewing this beer but I personally don't pick it up; the beer is great nonetheless.

That's one beer that I've never seen at either store that I frequent. Your comment about the lack of the coffee taste is a bummer (I've also seen this mentioned in these forums about Willettized) and has caused me to give up on buying it if I do ever see it. But based on your comment I'd buy the beer if I ever see it.

Was reading about the Modist chili cheese beer in a different forum. Checked and it has a '5' rating. Even if it was rated '1', I believe it would be overrated.

The potential 'issue' here is that these beers were bottled in the spring of 2022 but for some reason did not arrive to retailers until the end of 2022. Maybe the coffee faded over those months? Regardless it is a very tasty beer nonetheless for my palate.

    Cheers!

    Almost everything from Jester King.

High price, hard to find in store, long lines for distro releases. All for beer that is OK in my opinion.

Lol, brother. I'm on my first beer since Monday (Double Nugget Nectar, so you know) and its effing fantastic. However, after that layoff dogwater would prolly have me doing backflips.

For me, these ratings exist in my mind, like half-remembered dreams. Truth is, most beers we drink are actually pretty good. I'm guessing most of us have a standard repertoire. Sometimes something comes along that knocks you out, but FOMO keeps us excited and jittery.

Other than all the macro lagers that are brewed to style and completely consistent even through thousands of cans tasted that folks here like to rate poorly just because “ewww it’s a macro.”

Maybe beers are overrated its because the drinker doesn't like beer. The biggest selling beers in 'Merica for the most part are among the lowest rated here on BA, but most of us pass on those. Ratings are just opinions, and opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one. I've been not-enjoying some beers from the extreme big stout beer box, I've had 4 so far, 64oz total and I'm sure 20oz were "drain pours", yet these Extreme Beer Box Pastry/Dessert/Added Junk laden stouts were rated 4.2 or higher, my ratings were 3.25 of lower. Go figure.
