Too many comments here sound like "I don't like beer style XXX, therefore any highly rated beer in that style is overrated". Try picking a beer in a style you like that you think is over-hyped.

So, your wife's son, who no one has ever heard of, thinks an all-time beer is overrated? Cool. I get it, too. We all perceive things differently. I'm just not sure what value we're adding to the culture by defecating on established entities. I'm disappointed w/ my fellow man on a daily basis; I'm seldom disappointed by beer. I'm thankful we have it. Cheers!

The beginning of the decline, in my opinion. 2017 was such a treat and then, poof - Kaiser Soze, it was gone.

You really didn't appreciate that one? I'm not disrespecting your opinion, but it seems like a lot of effort went into that one.

According to my ratings on here it's got to be Treehouse. I have 3 treehouse beers in my top 50 -rDev list. King Julius, Juice Machine, and Julius.

I dunno. They just didn't stand out to me. I thought Haze was a very good beer. Those other 3 were just sort of middling, and I actually thought Julius was a pretty mediocre example.

I also resonate with the Homestyle call out. I kind of knew it was getting inflated love due to its region. I still thought it was pretty bad

I went back and checked my reviews on these. It would appear, based on my observations, that barleywines and doppelbocks are somewhat underrated. And 120 Minute is apparently not quite as overrated as I remember it. Let's just say they aren't my top choices and leave it at that. :sunglasses:

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'll take a "shelf turd" classic that's 90-95% as good as a hyped whale every time, over putting in the effort and/or resources required to snag most allegedly divine angels-singing nothing-compares-at-all whales.

I've never had a single hyper-rare beer where I thought "wow, this really is like 25x better than <comparable available classic>, I'm glad I put in all that effort".

Doesn't stop me from doing things like Zwanze Day, mind you. Lol.

This is where I bring in my Old Rasputin Units (ORU). I can get old Rasputin for under .20$/oz. So I look at some of these stouts that ask 10x and more that price, and I find that I rarely encounter one that is 5x or 10x better

I don’t think there’s a beer out there that’s literally 5x, 10x or 25x better but there is a MASSIVE difference in taste and quality between some of the extremely sought after stuff and a shelfie. Huge, huge difference. It’s all about what we choose to spend our money on and what we get joy out of experiencing. There’s a magic value spot out there for most of us.

Some people spend their money on fancy cars. Some on vacations. Some on sporting events, food and beer/wine/whiskey, art and culture. Some on retirement savings for fun and comfort later. There is no wrong decision, just (sometimes massive) differences of opinion/application.

If I’m understanding you right, your top 50 would be roughly your top 10% of beers logged on BA, therefore making the Treehouse beers in the upper range of your total beers rated. Cheers.
