Just only buy the beer you are going to drink. That overwhelming variety is something you see in the soda aisle, in the cereal aisle and in the cracker aisle and you don't have the urge to collect, hoard, try every last kind of any of those things. SO - buy the beer you plan to drink. Then when you finish it , go back and buy more. It's always gonna be there. There' s always gonna be new beer!

What I'm overwhelmed by is the amount of mediocre beer that's saturating the market.

    1) Tried everything in my favorite styles.
    2) Tried everything from my favorite brewers.
    3) Now I just try everything. Period.

Agree with the OP. This is getting to be a dangerous situation that could cause heads all over the world to spontaneously explode. Something needs to be done to put an end to all of this fantastic beer being made by all of these great breweries.

I take it you missed the three beers aforementioned. HA, FFF, and Founders.

    Problem solved.

I love the freedom of choice and the fact that I can support the smaller breweries. That said there is some mediocre stuff out there. If having too much choice is the worst thing to happen, I'll take it.

Never too many, but there are a lot of beers that are similar to... X, so you can skip around a bit. I'm fairly picky with IPA's, there's a lot, but some are automatically discounted for other brews. Used to love Hop Devil, it's good but not very unique, there's a dozen like it so I haven't bought it in years.

Overwhelming? Yes, but in a good way. We wouldn't want to go backwards in beer time, that's for sure.

i think we all know what we like for the most part. sure we branch out and try new stuff but after a while you get burned more than pleasantly surprised. every now and again a new brewery will pop up with some good stuff but that is rare. more common are the typical start-up breweries that release the most boring starting lineup they can think of (lager, pale ale, ipa). personally, i am over the mediocrity of beer. if it isn't world class then why am I buying it? i can easily grab a SNPA or Black Butte Porter for the same price as the new guy's joe everybody IPA.

OP, save yourself a bunch of time and money and drink the stuff you like. What you'll find more often than not is stuff that is highly sought after, with few exceptions, is not worth to trouble.

    I love the options.

Especially since there are great (and arguably) better alternatives to highly rated beers that, for whatever reason, may not be available in any particular market.

While it's great to have variety, I seldom find a new beer that grabs my attention. When I head out to my beer spot, I always end up with a couple new beers that I never buy again, and a sixer of Stone, Lagunitas, Founder's, or Great Lakes.

Why do some people insist on saying such ignorant stuff? First off, he said he was overwhelmed by it, not pissed off by it. Second, what bizarre, idiotic logic drives one to say "if you feel there are more choices out there than you can drink you better stick to BMC!"... WHAT? Guh. I'm sorry but I can't put up with this kind of thing.
