PORTLAND, Maine — A Maine brewer is offering a quicker way to consume two of the state's summertime staples: beer and lobster.

Oxbow Brewing is serving up beer brewed with live Maine lobsters and a dash of sea salt.

Brewmaster Tim Adams says the lobsters were placed in a mesh bag and suspended in a kettle full of boiling wort during the brewing process. He says the lobsters add a subtle brininess and sweetness that lobster fans will recognize.

As a Mainer who regularly drinks Oxbow and loves lobster, even I'm staying away from this one. It's been sitting on the shelves at the brewery for a couple months now.

I guess you can't blame them for trying... I wonder if they ate the lobster after they boiled it in the wort?

What about the lobster beer from Dogfish Head at this year's extreme beerfest? Didnt try it myself because the lines were too long but.......the line was long. What does that say? Sure it was Dogfish Head but... I kind of view them as the Ben and Jerry's of beer, crazy flavors instead of crazy solid beer.

i might have tried it as a stout, still interesting as it is. Would love to hear a report on how all that works out for Oxbow

What was the lobsters' opinion of the beer?

Wonder if the people put off by this feel the same way about oyster stouts?

The question is..can one tell the difference between the brininess of oysters and the brininess of lobsters in beer? Ugh, that Flying Dog Dead Rise mess ruined it for everyone else.

I've had two of these beers. They are good, not great. Salty, buttery... good with lobster.

Tasted like a gose made with water from the ocean. A novelty, for sure.

The beer doesn't taste like lobster. I thought it was good when I bought a couple bottles in May.

Yeah this beer has been out for a while now. Surprised it's just getting buzz here now.

I haven't had this one yet but Nightshift's Harborside Gose brewed with Oysters was one of my goses I've had. A buddy has bottle of this set aside for me and I'm excited to try it.

I had it at the brewery and was underwhelmed. Then again, I tend to not be a sour or Gose fan.

Looking back on my untappd check-in, I gave it a 2.75 which for me, is pretty low. I much prefer their other stuff.

Very much like a gose, and it was good! Drank my bottle that was purchased in May about a month ago.

This was made over a year ago, also surprised the news is picking it up all the sudden. There are photos of the brew day on oxbow and del ducato's social media pages if you look back. I think the bottles are almost gone too from what I understand, they were released a few months ago, April or May. Reading the original article it says they used like 12 lobsters total and made 3,000 bottles - so it's hardly as sensational (gasp! a lobster in every glass!) as the news is making it. Anyway I've tasted it, it's super subtle in my opinion, definitely Gose-y which is how they describe it. I like it a lot.
