Going to Oxford for the game this weekend. I was curious what Friday night before a game is like and where to go?

I suggest walking around the square that night. There are multiple bars and restaurants on and near the square. Mississippi just recently changed its beer laws, so don't excpect any fantastic craft bars. If you like rye IPA, try a Lazy Magnolia Timber Beast. Al sorts of great restaurants to choose from. Have fun!

Ole Miss is usually ranked one of the top party schools in the nation, so there should be plenty going on downtown Friday. Go to the grove on Saturday. If you want to pick up some beer for the Grove, there is a new place called Joe's Craft beer and another store called the Bikini bar. Both should have pretty good selection for Mississippi.

Proud Larry's is the only beer establishment in Oxford listed here on BA. I visited last year and had fun, they have a bunch of Lazy Magnolia brews on tap and a good vibe.

Cool, thanks guys. I heard your beer has to be in a cooler in The Grove or the cops will make you pour it out. How hard is it to find a styrofoam cooler in town?

I haven't noticed coolers, but I bet they are easy to find. Unless there has been a recent law change, Lafayette county allows stores to sell warm beer only. There is definitely a market for coolers and ice. If the convenience stores don't have them, I'm sure you can find something at Wal-Mart.

Second everything they've said above...make sure your drinks are in a solo cup in the grove (no cans, bottles, etc.) I'll be there too, hope you have a good weekend in Oxford town

And make sure you hide your coolers (under a blanket or table cloth) while you're at the game, because they will be confiscated.

Awesome!!! Best road game atmosphere/experience I've had... I didn't have the chance to get any bottles or stop at the shops yall mentioned but I had a great time regardless!! I'll do my best to make sure yall are treated right next year in Austin!

I will be heading to the game next year in Austin! I hope you had a good time in Oxford. I left my heart there when I graduated in 2004. They might not have the best craft selection now, but now that the laws have changed...I'm hoping distribution gets a little better!

Craft beer in Texas has exploded!! Mainly Houston and Austin, a ton of new breweries have opened and they are pumping out some great beers! It's exciting!
