    Its a common misconception that oyster stouts taste like oysters or are briny. They don't, and the biggest difference is that the calcium from the oyster shells gives the beer a more velvety mouthfeel.

    You may or may not want to avoid Wynkoop's Rocky Mountain Oyster Stout for your friend!

    Completely agree on Marooned on Hog Island by 21st Amendment. You can find it and it is an amazing representation of the style. Flying Fish Exit 1 also was excellent, though they do not make it any more. Here is hoping they do again smetime in the near future.

    I just had my first oyster stout today from a Belgian brewery named Scheldebrouwerij. If I understood the Dutch label correctly, the wort is pumped through oyster shells. The taste was amazing for a stout, lots of dark chocolate, roasted coffee. But I couldn't possibly find any oyster or even remote seafood flavor in this.
