I've lived in the bay area fro almost 10 years and I've even spent a few weeks in Ireland, yet I have have never had this pairing. Thanks to craft beer, I'm not really interested in doing this with Guinness for my first experience. Does anyone know a good restaurant or bar that offers oysters in the half shall and likely has a solid stout on tap (Narwhal, Old Rasputin, etc..)?

I have no idea when they do it, but I know that Bear Republic does grilled oysters outside of the brewpub sometimes. They have a great stout.

Taps in Petaluma has a pretty good tap list that often has good stouts. I think they have oysters on Fridays.

Bar Crudo or Hog & Rocks in SF would work.

I'm guessing Anchor and Hope in SF would have both things.

Also, Jacks Cannery Bar at Fisherman's Wharf. Not a big fan of the place but they have oysters and a bunch of beers.

For SF spots, I'm looking for anything walking distance from the FiDi. I think Anchor and Hope or Hog Isalnd at the Ferry Building might be good bets. I'll look into them and report back. Thanks for the help.

Well, $1 Oyster Mondays sounds like a win, but I only see Guinness on tap for stouts. Still, probably going to have to do that next week.

I used to go to the Guinness Oyster and Music when it was small and free. Now it is huge and expensive.

But an FYI in case it is something you might be into in the Spring.

BYOB and head to one of the oyster farms in Marin County. Or BYOO and go to Toronado.

I'd love to see that - some guy sitting in divey-ass Toronado sucking down a plate of oysters. Yum.

I'm actually going to do the BYOO thing at Ol Beer Cafe in Walnut Creek. Pretty far from divey though. Apparently the sushi joint on the corner does some decent oysters and Chuck's cool with bringing them in. They have Velvet Merlin and Mikkeller breakfast on tap. Both should be good suitors.

Hog Island did a collaboration Oyster Stout with 21st Amendment which would be a natural pairing, but I don't know if they still have it on tap. It's brewed with the shells of Hog Island's Sweetwater oysters. Great beer, great oysters.

Pick up some oysters at Hog Island in the Ferry Building, grab a stout from Village Market (pretty great selection for the area), then sit out on the bay and enjoy.
