It was a rhetorical question, in more of a "what are they thinking" mindset. And yes, the limit is only per transaction, meaning that the customer has to leave the store with the beer between transactions. Most take it to their car, but some just leave their beer sitting right outside the door and then immediately come back to buy more. So the 192 oz. limit isn't really a limit, just an annoying inconvenience.

bottom line in my eyes - beer and wine are food - we should be able to buy them where we buy the rest of our food....

“Just an annoying inconvenience” (to the PA consumers). Doesn’t that pretty much summarize PA liquor laws!?!

^Yeah it's like, "Well we know our prices are a little higher than surrounding states. So what we're going to do is punch you in the gut, and then pat you on the back every time you come in here to buy beer. That'll learn ya. Enjoy!"

True, we are kind of lucky in this regard but take it from someone who has lived in other parts of PA, yeah, not so much. And don't forget that the Capone's and WFs of the state can now charge a premium under the current system because competition is basically nil.

Yes, any changes to the law *may* have a negative impact on the Mom & Pop shops however, I think this risk is small because the true craft beer drinkers will still be flocking to the true craft beer shops.

At Wegmans the registers on the beer side are only capable of checking out the prepared foods and alcohol. If you know this going in, it really isn't a bother because you just grab your beer first, they put a sticker on it that says paid, then do your grocery shopping. What is a bother is when people clog up the lines on those registers with groceries and argue with the cashiers over a rule they have no control over. The one thing that is a big peeve of mine is that ice (you know, that stuff that you can put in a cooler with your beer to keep it cold) is considered a grocery item, so a quick stop on the way to a tailgate requires a trip across the entire store and two check outs.

This is weird, because unless your bomber was a MEGA bomb of more than 48 oz, you're still under the 192 oz limit.
They did the same thing to some dude when my wife was buying me a six pack at GE. So the guy asked my wife if she could add the bomber to her order. She obliged, but she said they wouldn't sell it to her because they knew it was for him. Totally silly.

Yet when I went last week, I bought two sixers and two bombers and checked out fine.

I just park as close to the cafe doors as possible now, get what I want, set the second order down together somewhere and go about my business. It really only adds 5 minutes max to my shopping, but it's 5 minutes that are wasted in a very unnecessary way. Sometimes when you come back for the second order they give you shit, but there's nothing they can really do other than eventually ring it up. I'm trying to give you my money, just take it. >_>

i feel for you guys in PA worst laws ive ever come across, why doesnt someone write up a plan get a petition signed and get it to your representatives. im in an abc state but just liquor is at the abc stores the store i work in sells wine and beer in every way possible, purchase a pint while you shop, sure go a head. just one one 12oz bottle? grab one off my shelf, need a 6'r-a case why the hell not. no issues what so ever. i can do the same thing at the grocery store too. idk why PA had to make it so damn difficult

Yeah, it's not like I'm yearning to buy my beer, wine and groceries in the same spot. Moving the PLCB into a grocery store doesn't solve much and the only reason I buy my beer at the grocery store now is because that's where the best prices are.

I've seen this at Wegman's and it's certainly annoying. At least Whole Foods will let you buy groceries, prepared foods, beer and wine (already opened wine) at the same register. The only issue is that it's an express register so you can only buy a few groceries at a time.
