Looking for some recs on breweries/tap rooms/bottle shops in the PB/Mission Beach area. I’m flying out this weekend for a surf trip/bachelor party. I’m looking for places closer to the beaches as I’ll be walking/biking everywhere. I see SD TapRoom has some good options. Anywhere else to look? Cheers!
PB/MB proper ... not much in terms of breweries ... there is one when I visited last year = Amplified Ale Works ... it's decent enough and only a block off the beach (nice peek a boo ocean view), plus the food is solid. If you can get to Ocean Beach, that'll open things up in terms of breweries.
PB proper doesn't have much to offer brewery-wise, SD Tap Room is probably your best bet for craft beer although I can't speak to Amplified Ale Works, been too long since I last had anything from there. @AlexM is right though, your options expand greatly if you can get out of PB even just to OB or Point Loma (Pizza Port, Stone Liberty Station, Bottlecraft Liberty Station, Modern Times, Bay City Brewing Co.). Per Googlemaps those all look to be somewhere around a 25-35 minute ride (25-ish for Pizza Port/MT/Bay City, 35-ish for Stone/Bottlecraft).
Yea I think the first day I will hit up a few breweries with my buddy who lives down in Imperial Beach and will have his car. Thanks for the tips guys.
Pre-Pandemic, I would usually recommend 30th St in North Park, for TigerTiger, Belching Beaver, Rip Current (Great BA beers), 2nd Chance Brewing, Toronado, Beercraft, and Modern Times. All walking distance from each other. Well, MT is a bit of a walk. But, now, with TigerTiger and Toro gone, might be a tougher sell. But if you do go, grab Tacos/Burritos from Rays, to take to Belching Beaver.
Was Just in SD for a bachelor party a few weeks ago. North Park is still great. We hit up North Park brewery, Belching, Fall, and rip current. All had good to great beers.
I definitely plan on hitting Belching Beaver on Friday so thank you for the food rec! Was super bummed to hear about Toronado closing. I had been there a few times in the past.
Considering your going to be staying in IB suggest the following: Ye olde plank inn. They don't serve craft but the owner is a friend of the family and the is The oldest bar in the SouthBay area that's still existent. You can also order food from nearby eateries. Try Luigi's pizzeria. Since Chula Vista is nearby, also try Bar Sin nombre and machete (latter is in National City) from there, expand your horizons and visit liberty station/north park then go balls out if you reach out further (ie. alesmith and pure project though pure has a a location in balboa park, about 10 mins away from C.V) good times.
Not much there for beer. I remember a decent beer bar near Belmont Park but not sure if it's still open. Ocean Beach is better for beer. Pizza Port, Mike Hess, Modern Times is close.
