I drink beer mostly at home, but steelhead season is here, and I'd like to pack a few beers for the trip. Cans obviously seem a better option, if only because you can smash them down when empty, but I wondered how many of you pack beer for outdoor excursions, and any tips to ease the process a little. Every time I take beer it gets shaken up from the hike to the river. Any beer hacks for an outdoor trek.

Just brew on site. Put a fish head in each bottle. "Steelhead Ale". You'll make millions!!

Cans weigh less than bottles. There really isn't anything you can do about the beer getting shaken up a bit, get it cold and let it rest before you pop the top and be ready to slurp up any that spills over. Enjoy your outing!

When I camp or do outdoor activities I always buy cans. There are so many great options that I don't feel like I am sacrificing anything for convince.

pizza port is my go to camping. 16oz cans means less single bottles I need to bring.

Not sure what you're doing with your beer for the hike, but I always just make sure the beers are tightly packed in my pack so they don't have room to move around and I've never had an issue with them getting too shaken up. Stick them in a pool of water in the river when you get to your site and they'll stay nice and cool (this seems to help with foam mitigation too).

Cans win in the outdoors, and are easy to cool down even without ice. Just tie them in a back and submerge them in the water for a while. Plus, bottle breakage is not so much fun to deal with.

When they get shaken up or the possibility is there, it's time for a game of "Beer Hunter"

I have a few nice stainless steel 32 oz growlers that I bring hiking/camping. Stays pretty well insulated for several hours, definitely would recommend looking into it.

I've got a couple of these I often take hiking: http://www.rei.com/product/830831/gsi-outdoors-nesting-red-wine-glass.
Maybe invest in one of the insulated stainless steel growlers (aka Hydro-Flask), they'll keep stuff cold, or hot (i was at one of my local breweries recently, and a dude buys one. Then asks to get filled with clam chowder. He was going overnight hiking, but didn't want to carry along his cookset.), for a couple of days.

Another vote for Tenfidy, strong, canned, and I wouldn't want it cold anyways, stoked to have that one show up in my neck of the woods.
