P Nuts are good, you get depth of protection, especially for the bottom of boxes, and they compress. On top they help muffle slosh, and I hate sloshing boxes.

I usually use peanuts (from work) and electrical tape to secure the bubble wrap. The electrical tape is usually pretty easy to remove.

As anyone who has received a package from me can attest, I love this stuff. Just make bricks of bottles to make sure nothing moves.

I don't care how someone packages as long as the bottles don't break. I prefer no tape on bubble wrap, but if I destroy some tearing it apart, it still works as filler for boxes.

This. Maybe a tiny piece of scotch tape or plastic grocery bag wrapped around the bubble wrapped bottle is how I do. I hate getting boxes of taped up bottles. Such a bitch to open and impossible to really re utilize the wrapping materials

I have used small strips of painters tape and that seems to keep the packing materials safe to reuse.

The bottles that arrive looking like they've been mummified in shipping tape are the ones that make me groan.. So many other methods of keeping the bubble wrap from shifting off the bottles.

I just bought a box of rubber bands for $5, and it looks as though I'll never run out. 4 or 5 rubber bands on each bottle > packing tape IMO.

when someone sends a box full of bottles wrapped in bubble wrap and taped, y not just take a razor knive and gently cut the tape, then u can re use the bubble wrap, thats what i do, is it lil more of a pain in ass yea, but it works

ps, i hate bubble wrap taped to bottles, but i do like packing peanuts

Me too. I use rubber bands, one on each end and one or two in the middle. Since I cut the bubble wrap to make sure it extends few inches at both ends, once you rubber band it, it provides additional cushion at both ends.

Also, I stopped using peanuts. Initially, I thought it was more professional and did a better job at protecting the bottles. I sold some expensive camera lenses on eBay and one buyer sent me explicit instructions on how he wanted the lens he brought packed up. He wanted me to use crumpled newspaper. He was a physics professor and put some thought into this. In a nutshell -- 1) it doesn't shift in transit like peanuts can, 2) provides better shock absorption than peanuts.

I've been using crumpled newspaper ever since, and works great. Might get my hands a little dirty, but it's free for me.

The day I found the store that sells 300ft rolls of bubblewrap perforated every 12 inches was a glorious day.

One section sufficiently covers anything 22oz or smaller. 750's get two as one 12x12 piece usually leaves me with at best a quarter inch of overlap. If the bottles are getting slotted into a shipper with narrower openings thats sufficient, but the uhaul shippers I use most often for trustees require two sections for a perfectly snug fit with zero room for movement.

A few breweries (in my case The Bruery) have annual membership programs which provide beer as part of the membership price as well as society exclusive beers available for purchase. Using the Bruery for example, as I'm most familiar with it, anyone is eligible to join, but the Bruery doesn't ship beer out of state. So out of state members are obligated to find someone in state to pick up, properly pack, and ship their beer to them. That person is a trustee.

More information about the Reserve Society can be found here: http://www.thebruery.com/reservesociety/

I've sent a couple of practice boxes to family before I hope to "wade in" to the trading pool. I haven't used the shippers yet, but I do use 12" x 36" sheets of bubble wrap around each 12 oz. bottle. (That's not including the baggie and newspaper underneath.) Too much?

It might be a little much, but you can never be too safe. Are you doing box within a box?

That's such a great idea, to do practice shipments to family. Great job!
