I'm trying to send 4-5 bombers, 2 singles, and a 6er of cans to the midwest. I picked up a small(ish) box today at the beer store, a box that had 12 bottles of wine in it initially (but not like a "wine-shipper"). Anyway, as long as everything is padded well and the box is taped sufficiently, are there any drawbacks to shipping a large(r) amount of beer in a small(er) box? It's super heavy, which makes it seem a little odd, but that's the only thing I can think of..
What dimensions are the box? How thick is the cardboard? How do you plan to do it? Double box? Sounds like if it is 14x14x14 or smaller it will be too small, 18x18x18 it should fit but will need some verrrry careful packing. I would double box it with that many just to be safer.
Agreed. I use those same kind of boxes all the time, but ALWAYS double box them in a 14x14 or larger box I get from Wal Mart. Just pad it well and you should be fine.
Yeah, it's double-walled, but only 14 x 11 x 14. I haven't double boxed before, but I'll do that in this case. Thanks!
No matter how many bottles/cans I ship in a trade, I never use a box where the smallest edge length is under 12", unless it's a bottle shipper. On large format bottles there isn't enough room on top and bottom to add sufficient padding. Beyond getting a bigger box, I suggest bubble-wrapping the cans as a six-pack. It will take less space, plus you don't risk anything having the cans up against one another.
Not sure I can back this up scientifically, but a densely packed small box seems to be riskier than a lighter, more spacious box.
I agree. I actually had no clue they sold them (I just never shop there) until another BA told me. I buy those Heavy Duty 16x16x15 boxes like they're going out of style now.
