Thinking about going to the Padres game and checking out Beerfest. Has anyone been previously and have some feedback about going? I have not been before, but I am going today. I expect the usual suspects and nothing too interesting. Petco Park has done a great job with craft offerings the past few years. An event like this servers as more of an introduction to craft beer for the masses and not an opportunity to experience some rare, one-off beer. A worthwhile endeavor, nonetheless.
For future reference, to my best recollection. Anheuser-Busch: Shock Top Kona: I don't recall Ballast Point: Victory at Sea and Sour Wench Stone: Saison and Go To IPA MillerCoors: I don't recall Pacifico: I don't recall Mission: Shipwrecked Double IPA and I don't recall Green Flash: West Coast IPA and East Village Pilsner Karl Strauss: Tower Ten IPA and I don't recall Aztec Brewing: Noche de los Muertos and I don't recall Saint Archer Brewing Co.: I don't recall Coronado Brewing Company: Islander IPA and I don't recall The Lost Abby/Port Brewing Company: Mongo and Avant Garde AleSmith Brewing Co.: I don't recall Manzanita Brewing Co.: Rustic Horizon and pale ale Iron Fist Brewing Co.: Nelson the Impaler and I don't recall Black Market Brewing Co.: I don't recall Modern Times Brewing Co.: Lomaland and Black House Helm's Brewing Co.: I don't recall
Just kept getting Speedway from the Ryan Bros coffee cart behind home plate in the 101/102 concourse. That hill (and the whole area behind CF for that matter) was a mess for completely pedestrian offerings.
Agree with your assessment. Way too crowded, ran out of the beer I was interested in drinking. Will stay away next time
I had a good time, but some of the beers ran out stupidly fast. Were they only bringing 5gal kegs, or what?
What are the regular offerings at the ballpark on any given gameday? I was there about a year ago, and I found some Ballast Point cans, and a Karl Strauss cart. Not bad by any stretch, but I figure there's gotta be more. I'm going back June 21-22, and for reference I'll be in section 106.
There is Ballast Point on draft in their biergarten area out in left field. There is Goose Island on draft around the park. One of the best new additions is the series of Green Flash beer stalls throughout the park. West Coast IPA and East Village Pilsner on tap. There are also a bunch of Mission Brewery stalls with Shipwrecked DIPA on tap and their hef. There is also a stand behind homeplate, next to the new Seaside Market area (which is awesome), called Craft Beer of San Diego. They sell bombers and cans, and they may have a few drafts. This stand is wayyyyyy overpriced, BUT they do have some awesome stuff, and you can split a bomber of Alesmith with your buddy if you want. Stone also has rooftop biergarten in section 311 with 12 different taps, and Ballast Point has a new spot down the first base line with 20 taps. As shitty and frustrating as the Padres are, the beer situation at Petco is top-notch. If they could just get some Modern Times and Pizza Port cans...
This is what I saw over the weekend. Ballast Point Bar & Grill (downstairs from Hodad's) has a large draft lineup: Calico, Big Eye, Dorado, Wahoo, Sculpin, Long Fin, pale ale, Black Marlin, Sea Monster, and maybe Fathom. I think $9.75 each. The Ballast Point area behind the Western Metal Building/left field pole sells a few Ballast Point beers, I think in cans and draft. Ballast Point also has a spirits section somewhere, but I don't recall where. The Stone bar in section 311: pale ale, IPA, Go To, Ruination, Arrogant Bastard, and I think Sublimely Self-Righteous and Smoked Porter. $9.75 for 16 oz of lower alcohol/12 oz of the higher alcohol offerings (I think Ruination is the cutoff point). Bombers also are sold there. There are a few bottleshop-type concession stands that sell bottles from just about every San Diego brewery that bottles. The bottles are poured into a cup (a large cup for bombers). There are a couple Karl Strauss and Mission stands throughout the stadium that have a few draft offerings. As wattershed said above, The Ryan Bros. coffee stand behind home plate sells Speedway Stout. There is a lot of Kona, Goose Island, and the usual ballpark suspects throughout the stadium.
Wow. Thanks fellas. I'm really excited for that weekend. I'm making a stop at Alesmith to pick up my BASS, and Ballast Point time permitting before the game. You guys in SD have an awesome stadium, I had a great time last I was there. Also.. FT: Beat LA t-shirt.
