Palate expansion....or blunting.....?

    I have a very unrefined palate...when I was into Single Malt Scotch, I brought a my Guide to Single Malts to the bar my girlfriend was working at, that had a decent selection. As I tasted the scotch, I read the description, I got none of the flavors that were described. But I could tell what I like and disliked...I'm the same with beer and wine
