After I have drank a new beer for several days in row I seem to develop palate memory and my brain starts to conjure up a desire for that beer. Does anyone else experience this?
Palate memory.. That sounds much better than "alcoholic".. Sorry, I have to drink every night.. I have a great palate memory.
Anytime that you eat or drink something that you like your brain will tell you that you want more. Am I missing your point?
It's the opposite for me. If I take a break from drinking, my "palate memory" will randomly activate a craving for hops on my tongue and, for an instant, I can taste or at least vividly remember that juicy, fruity hop flavor.
I notice it more in the store. I am always looking for the next new beer, one i haven't tired. If I am slow to find something new I notice that I will get a nice craving from palate memory for something I have already had before.
Yeah that happens to me. I'll tell you what it really happens with is bourbon. I might not have a bourbon drink for a year and then I'll have just one and then for weeks after that, every few days, I'll almost get a phantom puff of it on the exhale out of nowhere, just for a microsecond. I'll almost taste it, and my mouth or brain or body or all three want it. Weeks! I'm currently two and a half weeks past the only bourbon drink I've had in maybe nine months and just tasted it again yesterday. That'll happen with beer too randomly, though in a less pronounced way. I'll suddenly taste a flash of hops or suddenly get a puff of black malt char and will have the urge to go get myself an IPA or robust stout. Once in a long while the same will happen for a standard lager, like years go by in between, but I can't think of it really happening with other styles. It's weird.
