I have recently come to the conclusion that for whatever reason I can detect Iron in beer in much lower quantities than most people. This is especially the case with stouts and beers which are more heavily malted. For instance I did not enjoy the founders breakfast stout because to me all I could taste was the iron, knowing I have a low threshold I refused to rate it. Has anyone else experienced a similar issue with a flavor in beer?
Coffee flavor in beer. Which means that I'm immediately turned off by VERY large number of Stouts and Porters. And I find this unfortunate because I know I'm missing out on a huge portion of the beer world that other people really enjoy.
I know the minerality taste of which you speak, it typically does not bother me though. Hmm I wonder if everyone is tasting that or if I have a lower threshold as well.
I also notice a number of dark beers to taste metallic, but I haven't been put off by it. It seems to go with the styles.
I have a sensitive palate and can pick up lots of things easily if I really concentrate. That can be a bad thing. I am trying to toy with shorter reviews and less delving and dwelling on every taste. I recently had one of the worst beers ever that was a cornucopia of bad/off flavors. I felt traumatized a little
I personally find it overwhelming, its an after taste and it lingers. Perhaps if it was in the foreground of what I was tasting I might find it more acceptable
I have had this problem from time to time as well. Particularly Gulden Draak. I kept getting an aluminum after taste. The problem was that everything else about the beer was great.
I can taste Diacetyl pretty readily myself, along with whatever the compound that causes that taste like burnt band-aids. I can taste that one to the point that I have something with that one, I can taste it in most beers for weeks afterwards.
Agreed, I don't think it's just you me and my whole family seem to have that problem. On top of being overpriced they don't seem to make world class beer IMO. I will say I loved Autumn Maple though, and it's one of the best beers to drink this time of year.
I don't think that would be a problem for me. It would probably only get me to like a beer more. Complete sucker for just about anything coffee.
I find I am very able to detect a thread that is actually about people serving their more stout beers to cold
I've noticed metallic taste in some of my guinesses but nothing I can't get past. On that note I love my IPAs but I find my threshold somewhere in between double jack/pliney and palate wrecker which to me is well just not fun.
