Travelling for a conference for four nights to the Palo Alto area. I was wondering if there's anything in the nearby area worth checking out. I might try to hit Holy Water at some point, and maybe Wondrous if I have time. But it would help to have a few bar recs nearby in the area if possible. Cheers!
San Carlos is 15-20 mins away (even by CalTrain) and you can go to Ale Arsenal - a beer bar with quality taps and cans/bottles for takeaway. Here's their current taplist: Ale Arsenal Beer Menu
Gourmet Haus Staudt in Redwood City is stumbling distance from the CalTrain station and has a great taplist (both German and craft selections), tasty food, and a good bottle shop. Highly recommend heading over there.
Also recommend Gourmet Haus Stadt in RC and Ale Arsenal a little further away. Rose and Crown in Palo Alto was easily the best option in PA back in the day. Haven’t been for a while, but tap list still looks solid if you want an option in town.
Ale Arsenal seems to have the most interesting taplist as of now. I am mostly interested in trying local stuff I can't get in LA very easily: Wondrous, Sante, ASB, Cellarmaker... Holy Water is my favorite bar in the SF area that I know, but it's a bit far.
It's worth noting that Gourmet Haus Stadt also has accounts with Cellarmaker and ASB (not sure about SARA and Wondrous) so you may want to give that a look-see in addition to.
If you are into Cask Beer and English styles, you may want to go to Freewheel in Redwood City. Also, I can second Halfords in Santa Clara.
