Yes, I know these threads can get boring but I need to know the deal. What is up with Parabola (and wookie) in NJ, specifically for me central jersey. At my go to store they keep telling me they are told it is in transit and it has been ordered for awhile. Those in the know speak up.

my distributor in north jersey tells me that firestone walker is requiring that they use a refridgerated truck for transit, and the distributor is balking at the extra 6 to 7 dollar charge per case. I am told it is a stalemate and fear parabola will not make it here. Wookey jack has already been ruled out for north jersey

It amazes me how long this beer takes to get here. I'm just hoping I can snag a bottle or 2 in PA or hop across the border. Phillipsburg probably won't get shit anyway, and I doubt I will in the Lehigh Valley so looks like I'm beat.

For much of NJ, Firestone-Walker went with A-B houses (thus High Grade in central and nw NJ). So in Monmouth and Ocean that means Ritchie & Page (which bought Crown a few years ago). R&P is pretty consumer-unfriendly (a common trait of the "middle tier") with no real presence on the internet, etc.

Yeah I know, I meant when they finally do arrive. I'll be venturing to Philly soon, hopefully I get lucky and have it be when Parabola lands.

i talked to the craft manager of my distributor and he seemed to think it was laughable that firestone walker wanted their beer refridgerated en route. Its a shame they are distributed here by anheiser busch houses, who care very little about craft beer, as they make up such a small part of their portfolio.

"Laughable"? Yeah, that is the attitude about freshness from a lot of distributors, unfortunately - as quick review of date codes in many liquor stores reveals.

Anchor's FAQ claims they have the same requirement:

"We require all of our distributors, national and international, to refrigerate our products during transport from the brewery to the warehouse. It is a very important consideration; many distributors find this to be either impossible or too expensive for them. (under "Can I Distribute your Products").

The A-B houses in my area (High Grade and Ritchie & Page) do a good job of getting fresh Ithaca and Victory beers to the stores I frequent. I can often find Flower Power within 2 weeks of bottling. Somewhat ironically (given the quote above) High Grade seem to fail when it comes to fresh Anchor products.

true, i also get flower power at the height of its freshness, but a lot of that is due to ithaca brewing itself. It is my understanding that they dont brew flower power consecutively, they brew it on a delay, a few months apart. So its out of stock with the distributor at times, but when they have it, it's almost always fresh.

Canal's in Hainesport has parabola.... 32.99 a bottle. I passed. If that's the going rate this year, I will NOT be having a 3 year vertical.
