"Craft" beer has definitely arrived now.

That was surprisingly good, other than the darkness question. (Something like "True or False: as a general rule, darker beers tend to have higher ABVs.) While it's obviously incorrect to use this as an absolute rule, there's no question that there is a general correlation between color and ABV. Just look at Sierra Nevada, the company that put it together - Narwhal and Bigfoot are their darkest mainline beers, and they're also the strongest. And even within a style, Torpedo is darker than SNPA, and also higher ABV.

Like I say, it's not absolute - just look at some DIPAs (11%+) compared to, say, Guinness (4%). But to act like there's not a general correlation is willfully ingorant.

Not suggesting the answer should necessarily be reversed, just that some nuance should be added to the choices.

Damn. I only got 19 of 21 correct.

Decent quiz. Not something your average BA would struggle too much with, but your casual drinker would probably get a fair number of those wrong.

I agree in principle with what you were saying... until you brought up Bigfoot.

Their plain Stout is darker than Bigfoot, but about half the ABV.

Anything that says "Beer" in the title has my undivided attention. Scored a 76%, which I am sorta disappointed in. Thought I was better than that.

I was thinking of Narwhal. Never really see the regular one around here.

Didn't get ones about production, number of styles rated at the festival, year of Oktoberfest...

I got 19/21 myself- probably overthought those two that you mentioned (# of styles, Oktoberfest).

Yeah- I'm sure we could come up with a number of examples where the lighter beer is stronger. Einbecker is another one; their Maibock is stronger than their Schwartzbier by a few percentage points.

I probably confused Rheinheitsgabot (sp?) with the date Oktoberfest started and went with the oldest date. And, # of styles was a complete guess for me. No idea how many would be at any festival. Should probably have just guessed high. I also can't keep up with how many barrels of beer are produced each year. All in all, probably not bad ones to get wrong.

I got 71%, a good target for a barleywine ABV.

Damnit! Missed 2. The number of pre-prohibition breweries, and Oktoberfest. Nice little quiz though.

I've yet to read a review here with a descriptor of Rose. Floral all the time but not rose.

That kind of confused me, but I realized the other two were rather common, which meant there was only one possible correct answer.

I can think of a couple of beers that are brewed with rose hips, but otherwise I agree. "Floral" is quite common, but rose specifically is a rarity.
