I'm looking for suggestions on a very specific beer type. A Lager, simple, Without Adjuncts, and the entire absence of malt sweetness. As for the hop bitterness, I am open to only slight, to very full, and anywhere in the margin between. It must be available from my local beer supplier (carries a wide variety of beers across the spectrum from budweiser to trappistes rochefort, but does not accommodate special orders). And most importantly, Dryness beyond seltzer water, actually to the point of seemingly disappearing into evaporation upon hitting the tongue. Any ideas? I'm having difficultly searching beer advocate on my own with such a specific type of beer in mind. For what it's worth, I'm drinking alot of sierra nevada pale ale, and warsteiner verum, though neither of these fit the bill.

    Thanks,
    - oldnorth

You probably want a Diat Pils (made for diabetics, so there are few residuals)- unfortunately, I can't think of any that are widely available. A lot of other North German Pils will be dry and bitter, though perhaps not as dry as you want. Have you tried Jever?

Is that certain? The Michelob website says Michelob Original Lager is brewed with "Two Row Barley Malt and Caramel Malt". The michelobultra.com page says "two-row Munich malts and European select hops".

I would not be surprised if they used rice, but I can't find an official mention of it.

Jever Pilsner--crisp and sharp--great bite but easy to drink-local bottle shop always can get
Stiegl Pils from Salzburg, Austria--lighter and so easy to drink--fairly easy to find

From US--Victory Prima Pils. IMO best representation of style in USA

    Cheers

Pilsners tend to have a little sweetness, so I doubt they would qualify for what he's looking for. Try Jacks Abby 2nd Anniversay Double IPL.

Yeah, looks like Michelob itself is now all malt, but not sure about Ultra. You'd think Michelob Ultra would just be a watered down recipe of Michelob Original, but that may or may not be the case.

Anyway, we are kind of hijacking the thread, and my original suggestion of Michelob Ultra was half in jest because I am not sure an Uber-Dry Pilsner exists, though Jever might be close. Prima Pils is pretty dry, though I don't think I would call it "parchingly dry".

Dark Lord. Nice and airy like that, and easily gettable.
    Thanks for playing

Not sure how widely available but I think Mikkeller Vesterbro Pilsner is pretty close to the beer you described.

    Mr. North of Old,

Can you give us some beers that are close to what you mean, but posses an off trait you can note that you don't like?

For example, I was going to suggest weihenstephaner, but would that be too malty or hoppy to your taste?

Maybe victory prima pils? Or Great Lakes the wright pils?

Dortmunder gold is a terrific classic lager and has only a modicum of sweetness, dry too. Parching? Try a sour.
