Any good liquor stores or bars in park city? Also any local knowledge of something fun to do besides ski? I will have a car and looking for other options. Thanks.
Yes, High West's Gastro Distillery is a must stop. There are three brewpubs. Wasatch, Squatters & RedRock. The No Name Saloon is a great watering hole as well. If your looking for something to do that doesn't involve drinks, take a bobsled ride. It's a blast!
Utah is a Mormon theocracy. So it has generally liked to make alcohol consumption as difficult as possible*. At the same time, it also wants to make damned sure it gets its cut of the loot. As a result, the only place you will be able to buy beer greater than 4% ABV is in one of the state-run liquor stores. Their selection is not impressive. If you drive into downtown Salt Lake City, the specialty store at 250 South 300 East might be worth a look. This PDF will tell you what might be available. http://abc.utah.gov/products/documents/CategoryPriceList.pdf While I haven't been there yet, The Bayou looks to be the bar with the goods: http://www.utahbayou.com/all-beers But back to Park City, I took the High West distillery tour a few years ago and enjoyed it. (Its Campfire bottle is mighty tasty hooch.) However, it's a bit of a facade. They strategically failed to mention that they were blending whiskeys distilled out of state: http://whiskycast.com/high-west-changing-labels-to-add-transparency/ And even now their real production will be taking place outside the high-rent precincts of Park City: http://whiskycast.com/episode-515-january-10-2015/ [* It grudgingly relaxed some of the restrictions on bars prior to the 2002 Winter Olympics when it realized the inadvisability of antagonizing the hard-drinking global press corps. Still, you can't get served beer above 4% on tap. And you can't even get a bottle without ordering food, etc.]
