Will be in Park Slope this upcoming Wednesday to Sunday and would like to get some good beer suggestions. I will be staying near 7th and Flatbush, but heading into Manhattan for various touristy things as well. Only plan so far is to hit Spuyten for Zwanze Day. I am most interested in bars/restaurants, though it would be fun to check out some bottle shops. I'm not overly interested in breweries, as I won't have much time to take the tours.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Joel. I just moved to Park Slope two months ago, so all is still fresh in my mind!

    Park Slope specifically:

Bierkraft is a sort of hybrid bar/bottle shop/café. They have around 15 or so taps for pints or growler fills. Growlers and bottles can both be consumed on premises. Prices are excellent for growlers, but at more of a premium for bottles. In terms of selection, both growlers and bottles are great.

Prospect Heights Beer Works is the other bottle shop that's close - just outside of the Park Slope area. Solid place with good pricing for NYC (bought a Pannepot there for 5.99 which is the best I've found in NYC).

There are a couple of other places with smaller selections such as the Ploughman (beer/cheese shop) and Brooklyn Larder.

In terms of bars, there are several worth going to. I would say the must-tries are Double Windsor (decent food too), Mission Dolores and The Owl Farm. It's also worth checking out High Dive, Uncle Barry's, Fourth Avenue Pub and probably, the Gate. Bar Great Harry is close by in Gowanus - not far and also definitely worth a look.

Although you're not necessarily going to get your mind blown by the beer selection (German / Austrian), I would highly recommend Der Kommissar as a place to have some beer and food.

Since you're going to Williamsburg to check out Spuyten, the BBQ restaurant across the street (same owner) called Fette Sau is solid and worth a try. There's a beer store round the corner called Breukelen Bier Merchants. It's ok, and you can drink there. Torst is only a 15 min walk from Spuyten (up in Greenpoint). It's a must-try for any beer nerd - an NYC beer geek institution. Also in Greenpoint is a store called Brouwerij lane. There are a bunch of other bars in Williamsburg/Greenpoint with solid craft selections.

In Manhattan, I would say the bars that stick out are Blind Tiger, Proletariat, Rabbit Club, Jimmy's 43. Some people would recommend RattleNHum, Ginngerman, Pony Bar(s) - they're worth a look, I'm just not a fan of the atmosphere in any of those places. Good Beer, WF Bowery, Top Hops are the go-to beer stores (New Beer is worth a look but has a bad rep re: limited releases and storage)

Restaurant advice in general - there's too many to choose from in NYC. If there's particular types of places you're interested in, let me know and I can give you some ideas

Edit - Dinosaur BBQ recently opened their Brooklyn location. Mission Dolores is only 50 yards away and since they don't serve food, they'll let you eat your take-out Dino in the bar (or at least they did a couple weeks ago)

You're welcome mate. Hope you have fun. And like I said, if there's a particular type of restaurant you're interested in, let me know and I can give you some ideas.

One more place is Spitzer's Corner in the LES. Good beer selection and decent food too

Best restaurant in Park Slope is Talde - it's at 7th ave & 11th St so not too far from where you are, maybe a 20 minute walk down 7th ave or an easy B67 bus ride. After that, Al Di La is pretty great too but they don't have a good beer selection. Franny's is close to where you'll be also, awesome pizza and they have a small but quality draft list. (Recently they've had Evil Twin Nomader Wit and Ballast Point Sculpin on draft.)
