I bought #7 today and just finished it. Smoked sour ale aged in scotch barrels. Anyone else had this? It was great! I always feel like I'm on Mars when it comes to Paradox beers, they never seem to get any love and I've never had one I didn't think was minimum good and some are AMAZING. Anyone?

I picked up the last (I think) #5 at Grapevine...when I have it, I'll let you know, since it's supposed to be a really good one. I thought the Low Hanging Fruit was excellent. I've had some others that were...just bad, vinegary messes, just not good. I can't remember which ones they were to be honest, but I think Paradox is just really inconsistent, hence the lack of love.

^This.... a super inconsistent brewery at its best (worst).... never know what the hell you're gonna get when you buy one of their beers (which is why I don't anymore)

I've had a couple that were absolute drainpours... just my two cents.. very, very inconsistent...

Huh. Well that answers that haha. Yeah I've had maybe 6 beers from them over the years and all have been at a minimum good, and a few great ones. Guess I've just been lucking out.

I agreed with this before they made the shift to "all our stuff is wild" labeling. I had one amazing stout and then one drain pour stout (because it was wild). Then took a break from them for a while. Have revisited over past couple months and I've been really impressed! Their latest 5 Skullys have been top notch!!

OK - ninja edit / addition - I just opened their Skully #14 (wild peach) - I'm going on record as saying if you closed your eyes and drank this next to beers labeled Almanac, RR, V013, etc...you would put this in the same bracket. I'm really picky on wilds and this is fantastic...

That's great to hear, because I've really wanted to like them, I think they have an interesting concept. Hopefully they keep going this way and can grow/mature as a brewery.

Now having Skully No.15 - sour ale w/salted watermelon. Really, really good. Their stuff is just getting better since they started capping their bottles; the carbonation really helps.

Skully No. 14 - sour ale with peaches and Skully No. 19 - sour ale w/cranberries and orange peel. Both were fantastic.

I've had nothing but bad luck with them but since they've started capping their bottles I've heard the quality has improved. I gotta give them another try I guess.

I don't like watermelon and I generally don't like salted beers, but Skully 15 was pretty nice. The last couple of beers I've had from them have been solid. I don't see myself rushing out to grab all of their beers and I wish their bottles were differentiated from one another a bit more, but maybe they've hit stride?

Having heard bad things about them before and then shifting bottle sizes I was a little hesitant. I gave the watermelon a shot and it was unique for sure. I also tried #16, but it wasn't mind blowing. I would prefer them to make some staples and then periodically come out with new beers. By the time I actually bought, "sat on", and then cracked 15/16 they already had #21 out. They can run their business however they want, but ekkk.

Per some other convos I would like to see some different offerings as well. Too many # beers are similar. Watermelon was an odd ball, but not many are that different enough for me. I would rather spend my money on a consistent place like Crooked Stave

A little off topic but there is a badass wolf sanctuary about 15 mins West of Paradox called Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center. Beautiful area and lots of wolfs and foxes. If you don't mind BIG dogs, and are a little nutty in head, you can go into their habitat and wrestle around with them. With supervision of course... Pretty awesome experience.

Just an idea. I figured if anyone is crazy enough to go to Paradox then you're crazy enough to go dance with wolves. I kid, I kid.

Skully 21 is on point, fwiw. Delicious raspberry brown sour. Agree with much of what has been said here, but do yourselves a favor and grab a bottle or 4 of that stuff :-)

Popped a Skully No.9 earlier this evening. Thought it was a really well done beer. Wish I had picked more than one bottle this summer. Also have a No.11, No.12, and No.13 which I'm really looking forward to.

I've had 13 and 16 recently. 13 was kinda bland, IMO but 16 was one of the better sours I've ever had. I'd definitely like to try some others.

Skully No. 23 - sour with grapefruit and citrus peel. The fruit is more on the subtle side. Good but best let it warm to 60-65F to enjoy more of the flavor.
