So I am doing a partial mash in a bag. It is going to be my 7th brew and first partial mash. For the most part I am following the advice found on homebrewtalk here:

    http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f39/easy-partial-mash-brewing-pics-75231/.

Here is my problem/question. For my 5 gallon recipe, I am planning on putting 6.5 lbs into the bag in a 4 gallon pot. After I obviously need to lift this out and teabag it in my sparge water. Is 6.5 lbs of wet grain unreasonable to move like this. I will let it drain in a colander and separate bowl. I am thinking this will be fine but I am not positive. Otherwise it is looking good, I am happy with my recipe and excited to mash!!

If anyone has experience and believes I have an unreasonable task on my hands please tell me! Thanks BA.

Depends on how much water your grains absorb, but I'd figure on roughly doubling the weight (so around 13 lbs) after draining. This is based on 0.12 gallons of water absorbed per lb of grain, which is what I use in my spreadsheets.

Stupid work always blocks all the pictures from showing up on my computer. I'm going to assume you have a paint straining bag and you could hang this over the edge of your brew pot. This should be over the water line inside your pot. Your brewspoon can help hold the weight if you twist the bag around it. A clean length of 2 by 4 or if your Mr. Muscles, you can just give it a slight spin and let it drip dry while you heft the weight and let it drip into your brew pot. Sparging gets tricky when you're holding hot grains though.

I did this with 8.5lbs of grain this past weekend. You'll be fine. Hold the bag up like a man. We're not talking 20+ pounds here... Not unreasonable in the slightest.... Unless you're 65 years old
