My wife and I are going to be staying in Paso Robles for about a week at the end of this year. We will also be spending a day in San Jose.

Are there any must-visit breweries or beer shops for rare collectors in that area? Would love to bring some tradeables home if possible. Thank you for any suggestions!

Starting in Monterey, you should visit Fieldwork and Alvarado and then Santa Cruz is Humble Sea and SARA. Only brewery worth visiting in SJ is Lazy Duck. Taprooms in SJ are Good Karma, OG, ISO Beers, Out of the Barrel and IBU.

Paso Robles there’s Firestone walker and that’s all I really know there.

San Jose not much except bottle shops which should have plenty of stuff, look out for bottle logic and Fremont stuff if you’re interested in stouts.

On the way up to San Jose try to spend a day exploring Monterey and Santa Cruz
    Monterey: Alvarado st, Fieldwork

Santa Cruz: Humble sea and Sara but the portal as they serve guest beers/ bottles as well.

You could hit Monterey on the way up and maybe Santa Cruz the next day (time permitting) because it’s like 45min away from San Jose.

If you're willing to roll to SLO, have heard good things about Central Coast Brewing (but I've not had their stuff personally).

And for Paso I've been disappointed by Barrelhouse recently. For my palate and preferences their stuff was better a couple years back.

I'd definitely hit Beer Thirty if you've got time when rolling thorough Santa Cruz.

I think Strike in San Jose has gotten its act together and the beers are enjoyable.

KiloKilo in Paso is worth checking out and by than Wildfields brewing in Atascadero just a bit south should be open.

If you could head to San Luis Obispo I would check out both Central Coast Brewing and a newer spot There does not Exist. Both solid spots.

Have you not been to FloodCraft? You sir are missing out dearly, but I take it you are more of a sour guy anyway.

    Wait... what happened with Libertine?

I was a member with them in 2017 but since no one on BA really knows or cares about them, I am not up on the scoop.

was there two weekends ago. the beer is decent, but not really comparable to some of the other spots mentioned here.

There was a food truck parked outside that made some delicious nashville hot chicken sandwiches tho.

Ya I'm also curious about this Libertine being trash idea. Last time I was down in that area (early 2016? I think) I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of Libertine beer.

Stouts are my favorite, but sours and IPA follow. I'll stop in every so often when I'm at Whole Foods but i kind of want a more variety. IPAs are good but i think Lazy Duck hits all 3 better than anyone else in the South Bay.

Checked out Floodcraft on Sunday while I was up that way and I was pleasantly surprised how good the beer is. I wouldn't go out of the way for it, but if you're already hitting the ISO/Original Gravity/Good Karma trifecta, it's nearby. Also, Growler USA is a few doors down from Floodcraft - poorly named since they can't fill growlers, but a pretty decent taplist and they offer 5oz pours of everything if you're in the mood to do some ticking.

Tyler did open a really cool beer bar in Atascadero called Raconteur Room. Worth checking out if you stop in to WildFields
