I'm doing a trip with a bunch of guys to the Central Coast. We'll be staying in Morro Bay and plan to walk to the Libertine. We have a bus hired to take us to a few breweries and I'm looking for suggestions. We will probably hit FW and Barrelhouse. If we leave there and head South to SLO, what place would you suggest we check out? I've looked for other threads, but the ones I saw were a few years old. Thanks.
I second Central Coast Brewing. Tap it is decent. If you want to go to a slightly divey brewpub Creekside is cool. Beers are okay and they usually have some decent guest taps. Spike's usually has a good tap list and Luis wine bar has a few good taps and a solid bottle list. If you make it to Pismo hit HotShots for sure, surprisingly good tap list the times I've been. For food, if you want a great sandwich hit high street deli, they have good bottled beers you can grab and drink with your sandwich on the patio. Cheers!
There's another Libertine in SLO which is cool. Definitely Central Coast Brewing in SLO as well. FW & Barrelhouse covers Paso. If you are also into wine, this region is SO GOOD. Turley in Paso is my fave.
If you dig Turley check out Venteux which is very close to it sometime. That's my favorite. OP, does it have to be a brewery? My suggestion is a great beer spot in Los Osos http://www.baywoodalehouse.com/
Definitely do Central Coast Brewing. Are you doing the Hop On Beer tour bus, or just a rental bus kind of thing?
Was just in SLO over the weekend & Creekside was closed. Construction inside with a new alcohol license in the window, under a new name. Also walked by SLO Brewing & that was closed as well, with construction inside. Went to Libertine, and can second that recommendation.
Where did Dunbar move to? If I recall correctly they used to be next door to ancient peaks in Santa margarita but that place closed/moved.
We(I work at Dunbar) have the Public House further down the road heading towards Atascadero (2200 El Camino Real, across the street from The Pacific Beverage Warehouse). Here you can get our beers along with great guest taps and bottle selection, open 7 days a week. Also, our new larger production brewery/headquarters is closer to the old location basically across the street from Ancient Peaks, just a little more towards the freeway. The tasting room at the Production Brewery (HQ) is only open Thursday-Sunday 11-5 and we have 4-5 beers on right now. Address for that is 22815 El Camino Real.
Doing the Hop On Beer Bus. We are staying in Morro so we will check out the Libertine (love that place) on the night before. I think the current plan is the following stops 1. FW 2. Barrelhouse 3. Tent City (?? Anybody have reviews?) 4. Tap It 5. Central Coast We might end at the baywood ale house...but we'll probably run out of steam. Thanks for the info!
